Got me a Vangaurd in 300 weatherby
« on: July 28, 2011, 05:46:29 PM »
Bought it about a year ago used, just got around to shooting it last week ACC is what they advertise got about 1 1/4" at 100 yards, it's a good rifle But why did weatherby put such a crappy trigger on it? they say it's adjustable but if you go over a 1/8th turn on the screw you lock out the safety mine came with about an 20# trigger pull, just ordered a Timney for it that adds a $100.00 to it, but I think it's worth it. Do you suppose that weatherby has a deal with Timney and gets a pay off for every trigger they sell for weatherby rifles???? I'm sure with the right load and a good trigger it will be a very good shooting rifle. O I had to cut the angle off the back of the stock so I could stand the recoil.

Ive got two vanguards a 257 and a 300 wby and i wish i could give you better advice but both of mine got fitted with timney triggers. Like you said the factory ones just dont adjust properly. My 300 really likes 180 barnes tsx bullets with re25. It will shoot them into 3/4s of an inch at a 100 yards for 5 shots. I found that load and cant see ever needing another load for anything.

Thanks Lloyd, mine favours the 180 also I tried some 165 and my target looked like I shot it with a shot gun, am waiting for my trigger to get here before I go out again but I will try your load, and thanks again.

mine wast to impressive with anything till  i tried the tsx barnes in it. Kind of suprising as the target that came with it showed a 1/2 inch group. the tsx load shoots 3/4s for 5 shots but most every other group was in the 1.5 inch range. I even tried a box of factory 180s and again 1.5 so I dont have a clue what they shot those test rounds with. My guess is another gun!

Theirs as lot of discussions on those factory targets, I don't believe them and how can a Co guarantee a 1" group when some people are not capable of that. I bought mine used for $200.00 so I can afford to drop another $100.00 fer a Timney. I have had some Winchester rifles that were not to acc and they kicked the bejeebers out of me, got rid of all but one kept it cause it is a tack driver but it kicks worse that that Vanguard, but of course I want egg in my beer
