Hey subdjoe, thanks for finding and posting this gem, there's some fascinating stuff to be gleaned here. :D  After reading some of the data contained in this report, I felt a strong urge to go out and fire a few .416 Rigby rounds into my front door, just so I could document the damage they caused. :o 
I'm teasing you, the truth is that I'm glad to see anything pertaining to artillery that I havn't run across before. ;)

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

Wow!  I found something one of the old timers here hadn't seen before?

It is really tempting, if I can get a little extra cash, to buy a Kindle or some such just to load all that stuff onto.   The site that links to has all sorts of good stuff on it.  Try searching "Manual" or "Ordnance" there.

Hmmm....have you tried reloading that .416 with FFg?

No, but a slower moving bullet would probably cause more damage to a wooden door; just like a projo fired from a carronade. :)

Well?  What are you waiting for?  Go out and gather the data!  Generate comparative tables!  Post pictures!  (makes shooing gestures) GO! GO!

Now I'm wondering if anyone has ever loaded up a bunch of 50 BMG with black powder and run it through a Ma Deuce.  Wouldn't that make a heck of a cloud of smoke!

Do you think there's any chance that being forced to read this whole fascinating report may have been a contributing factor in old Jeff Davis finally reaching the conclusion that secession from the Union was the only logical option?
