It does now.   ;D  However, according to my plans for a full scale Coehorn, 5/32" is about right for a 3/10 scale model.  However, that would mean you had to use about a #8 screw which is pretty light duty.

The drawing was taken down & corrected after Zulu posted the error.

Zulu, take another look at the drawing.  It specifies a 5/16"(.312") hole Not a 5/32"(.156").  Therein lies your problem.

Tracy

It didn't say 5/16" yesterday.

Sorry Zulu,  when I looked it was 5/16".  Thanks to a helpful posting by Flagman 1776 and an explanation in Reply # 272, I now see what happened.  I will just have to fire up the old time machine I have under the dusty tarp in my shed so I can check out the way postings read an hour ago or a day ago, before I post anything.   ;D ;D

The drawing did say 5/32".  The measurement was entered into auto-cad directly from the Excel scale sheet.  When Zulu noted it, the drawing revision was made and the corrected drawing inserted.

I was just thinking how this mortar would look in a Zulu base.

Hi Michael, the dia on the trunions is .814 ,unfortunatly some will be over that abit .I would take them on a one by one bases (get it 'bases' :o ::) ).
Length of trunion is 3.7 nominal .

DD,
Your drawing shows a .75 trunnion pocket.  .814 won't fit in this.  Will 7/8" (.875) work?

I'm sure there will be other adjustments to the drawing  once I have handles and barrel in hand.

Yes I am making these one at a time , I had thought about making a mold ,but soon realized I have to have it made ......too much money , too much time to be up and going and then I might or might not be able to pour it myself.

Then comes the wax chasing and in the end they just wouldn't be as clean all around ,these have not and will not ever have any parting lines or finger prints as softer casting wax can take prints.

I would rather just do it this way ...... I will admit there were/are times in this project that a mold would sure be nice! :o

Gary,

Box arrived to day.

Well!  My!!!   (speechless)

The post office guy said "wow, that awesome!"

The Mayor said, "that's neat, is it mine?"

Guys the best way for me to express just how nice this little mortar is. is to say you are really missing out by not getting in on the group buy.

Gary you did an awesome job honchoing this group buy.  Give your self a big pat on the back.

This is for your efforts.

If you can post some pictures to sway those who may be on the fence about getting in on the group buy that would be great.

So...

Do we believe we can safely shoot these cuties with cast wheelweight/lead balls...  as well as traditional golf balls??

Do we still want to pursue have a "mortar golf" gathering?   (and NO... NOT with Pb balls)  :o   I'll go talk to our club this next week.  We're only an hour east of Yellowstone...

George ,This thread is and always has been been titled "Group buy pour, bronze 24PDR Cohorn golf ball mortar ".

These are intended for Golf Balls ;D  .
These are also intended to be historicly correct , and there is a bit of a rub . Going with the correct Gomer chamber these little guys hold too much powder .

They won't be unsafe but it would be a terrible waste of powder AND you'd never find that golf ball !

I have made one of this next 4 for myself ,I overbored the already large chamber by .200"
So It will be a Super Gomer . I will test it severly including fox ball shooting and FULL chambers ,BUT I will not shoot lead . This is a golf ball mortar .

The testing will be for my piece of mind as well as everyone elses ;)

Thanks Gary (golf balls only) 8)

There's no reason to not shoot steel, zinc or lead with this mortar.

A golf ball  weighs 1.62 ounces

Zinc and steel golf balls weigh around 9.6 ounces

Lead ball weights just over 16 ounces.

Reduce your loads and plan for the additional recoil for the heavier projectiles.  I have shot all four  in my other golf ball guns and the steel and zinc are my favorites.

Zinc and steel balls are reusable and give a pleasing range, lead deforms and has to be recast and has a shorter range.

You will find both zinc and steel balls available in the Group buy stickies at the top of the cannon classifieds.

If you are going too play mortar golf  look for a par three course

Thanks for the replies... I figured the lead would be too stressful but am glad to hear about the fox/steel/zinc balls testing.  Let us know how that goes.  The thing is so cute and pretty it almost seems a shame to blacken it all up by shooting it.  ;)

That's why they invented Brasso.   ;D

Actually, I would never use Brasso on anything that needs to resist pressure.

GGaskill not wanting to be a thorn in the butt or start a fuss, however why won't you use Brasso on the motar? I was thinking of using it on a tarnish spot on my brooks cannon. How would Flitz work or have you another item to recommend????
