Gary, make mine straight; will you? Remember Master Dan's advice: It's a lot easier to perfect the wax pattern, than to have to correct the bronze product later.

On the way up to Montana Mike ,Tracy and I took a side trip to Caleco Foundery in Cody Wy.

I gave them the two mortar waxes . Mat who is the owners son was very excited about this project .

One wax (the crash test dummy) will be cast first to check on shrinkage and their general abilities , the foundery looked very good . It is interesting to see differant foundries , they all do it a little differant .

DaveSB, I am not sure when ,but they were going to expidite it .

I would like to know about how many folks may want one of these ? The reason is because they and I going to offer them to the GBO board members first .

These will be at the rate of nothing for me .

After ...x number are made my compensation will be figured in

Marking have yet to be determined .

Very neat sir, thanks again. I think another poll for serious interest is in order. However, I do believe price will be a determining factor for most people. If there was a way you could get an approx. (within $50-75) for a price point, it would help potential buyers commit to this idea.

I would be very interested in one, or more, depending on the price. The only thing I can't do is the work required on the bore, to true up that is, but everything else isn't a problem for me.

Where are we ? We are waiting for the first piece to be cast . I talked to the foundery yesterday and ......"it should be poured on Mon." I have heard this a couple of times already so we will see .

When I learn anything more I will let you guys know .

Today I called the foundery to see whats been going on . I was told that the first mortar was cast on Mon.

Unfortunatly they cracked the investment and where unable to fix it very well . SO this piece maybe ok for measuring but maybe not much else

. This does not bode well .

I'll know more when it gets to my house .

The crack occurred during the burn out of the investment . I was told two days ago it has been cast but the crack is/was still visable . It was reworked and is now on it's way to my home in Longmont .

To a commercial foundry it is a science ,a recipe. Not too much art other than the spruing.

The art with bronze is the artists wax not so much the casting . Things do go wrong and I've seen the scrap on ocasions.

I've dealt with two other founderies on many occasions with no similar issues . I will look at the test piece and make some decisions .

Yes I did recieve the bronze yesterday .

The color looks real nice , but there are issues .

First I do not want to be heard as Caleeco foundery is in any way infereor to any other foundery .

The founderies are all 'art founderies' meaning they cast thin panels to be welded together and they all make a hollow horse . A slip here and there are no issue as the maine can be whipping this way or that ,a missing hair means nothing .

Most shy away from anything with any bulk to it . Having said that at least they tried .
Here are some photos of their work .

Here is the hemispherical ball seat ,it has been battered by something ?

The chamber has been beaten out of round .

Another pic of the battering . I suspect they did it in an effort to dislodge investment but I was told nothing of it by the foundery .

This is the dolfin ,the top dorsel fin was standing up shark style now it is a 'horn' coming out of it's back having been mashed B4 investing . This is way over the top .

Hear you can see the trunions . THIS PIECE WAS SENT TO ME AS 'READY TO SELL'
Unfortunatly they are two differant lengths both are cocked as in this pic .

This flaw is a crack that has been reworked and buffed out from trunion to muzzle !

Here is some kind of rework to the inside of the muzzle ,I don't have a clue why . It actualy has a rolled over burr on the bore .

This is a rework of a crack in the investment . It has been ground down with a grinder on the trunion and the crack is visable up to the first barrel band .

As you may have gathered this is not what I would sell to anyone .
The GOOD news is I now know what the shrinkages are . I am going to pay the money I am being charged for it and I will keep it.

I am going to talk to my local foundery and see if there is any interest in this ....project .
