Red dot on Deerfield
« on: August 01, 2011, 12:51:45 PM »
I would like to put a red dot on my Deerfield but it has the Ruger propriatory mount on it that will only take regular scopes.  I saw that sportsmans guide has a ruger mount that will fit mini ranch rifles.  I used to have a nini 30 and put this kind of mount on it to put on a red dot scope.  Does anyone know if the sportsman's guide mount for the ranch rifles work on a Deerfiels?

I would think a weaver rail for a Ruger 10/22 would be a closer match.  Shoot an email to Ruger.

The ruger 10/22 has a completly different mount than the deer field.  Maybe the mounts for a 10/22 Magnum.
There are a couple of semi expensive red dot scopes 100 to 200 range that will fit in the ruger rings.  Such as the bushnell trophy that is just long enough to fit in the rings.
Other options are Trijicon scopes suck as the 1.25-4X24 but they are expensive at about $700 each.
I am saving my Pennies for one for my deer field.

How about using the stock rings, and a 1 inch body red dot, like the Ultra Dot, as shown mounted on my Ruger Redhawk?  There is a screw in sun shade that comes with the sight in case you need a little more length between the rungs.

Here's what I did, to mount an Aimpoint Red Dot (which required a Weaver-type base) to a Ruger rifler with Ruger's dovetails - a .308.

I sorted through a gun dealers box of Weaver one-piece mount bases, until I found on long enough to span the front/rear Ruger dovetails, and thicker on one end, underneath - I seem to remember it being a #90 or #91 base for a Marlin 39 cantilever barrel mount (It was almost 30 years ago).

I machined the bottom of the alloy rail to the same height difference as the Ruger front/rear dovetails (it was a boltgun) , then D/T'd a single hole in the top/center of each male Ruger dovetail to attach the altered base.

Since the Deerfield's factory dovetails are of the same height, you could probably use a Weaver one-piece base for a Marlin 336, filed or machined flat underneath, and D/T the dovetail roofs, as above.

Not owning a lot of machine tools and being generally unhandy with the same I am pretty well stuck with some already manufactured item.  I have found that anything that fits the ranch rifle will also fit the Deerfields so I am probably going to go that way.  I will report on the same when I get around to it which will probably be in about a month or so.

you could buy a 30 mm set or ruger rings and use only one of them to put an aimpoint on it.
