contender hunter,

My experience with Berkley is great with the exception of Fireline.  I tried it when it first came out and either I got three bad spools or it isn't worth the time.  All three spools had the same problem, would fray and break easily.  I use Spiderwire or Fusion by Spectra.  Never a problem and sensitive as can be.  Trilene and Spiderwire are what I put on my baitcasters.  Lawdog

Man, you just had to get me started on braid didn't you.

I absolutely dispise these new "Super" braided lines.  They have 1 good quality that is the low stretch lets you feel like never before.  However that's the only good thing about them.

They are not as strong as they claim.  Except when you are trying to break them.  If you are hung on the bottom and need to break off and go on, you'll probably pull the anchor cleat off the boat before it breaks.  Then you'll set the hook on a fish, and the line will just break.

It digs into itself on the spool.  If you get hung, catch a fish or otherwise put pressure on it, your next cast is going to that spot, and you'll have to pull it loose from itself.

I have never used Spider Wire, but have used Power Pro and Fireline.  Hated both of the.  I'm back to Cabellas Pro Line and P-line.

skipper which p- line do you like, they make quite a few I tried there floroclear which has a fluorocarbon coating so its cheaper and they rave about a whole bunch of things it is suppose to do but i didn;t see any big difference over any other regular quality line . what i'm looking for is a good line with the benefit of super sensitvity that won't hurt my baitcaster and one that i can tie my normal knot in- anybody got any ideas.

'contender hunter' asks a good question and one I would be interested hearing the answer to.  Lawdog

Lawdog,

I am new; however, I have been bass fishing for over fifty years.  We have some of the best bass fishing here in Tennessee (smallmouth, kentucky and largemouths).  I use all the baits,i.e. jigs, spinnerbaits, crankbaits et cetera.  I also use all kinds of line from four pound test for smallmouth in our deep clear lakes to thirty pound P-line on a flipping stick.  I like twelve pound test green P-line for crankbaits (very little stretch and good knot strength) and sixteen green P-line for spinnerbaits.
I fish a lot of soft plastic like Zoom lizards and tube baits and I use seventeen pould test Stren Extra Strength.  With the braided line, I only use it for fishing on the top of weed beds (milfoil) with rats and frogs.  It is necessary to get a good hook-set and hold the fish in thick weeds.  I would recommed to any one green P-line (it is stonger than the clear) and Stren Extra Strength for most all purposes.

I use nothing but Shimano baitcasters and seven foot rods and a few six and one half foot rods.

Good Fishing,
