The siege of Fort Pallet
« on: August 08, 2011, 06:33:41 AM »
Fort  Pallet flying the black flag of evil  is currently under construction.

It will be defended by the 6 heavy guns of Iron  battery.

And the 6 heavy garrison guns of Tombstone  Battery.

These guns will be positioned around the fort perimeter.

Four additonal guns will be manned inside the fort.

Siege plan.

Direct fire guns (cannons) will be employed to take out the perimeter defenses.  Once all the perimeter guns are eliminated, the fort itself will be attacked by all direct fire  and indirect fire guns (mortars). Fire will continue for one hour or the fort is destroyed.

This will be the closing activity of the Cut Bank Cannon Convention, II August 20-21 2011 in Montana

From what distance will Ft. Pallet be bombarded?

Poor Fort Pallet  :o  . It almost looks like it already lost ! ;D  Where is this evil Black Flag ? Do you have one ? We should hang it on the front for maximum fire effect and you could be keeper of the evil Black Flag . I guess I could paint a towel  :o

I'd like to see it at 200 but 100 yds is good too.

Douglas what is the weather like today ?

Just so we don't read about the "Ft. Pallet Massacre."

Or hear a really long, rambling folk song about it.

I'm guessing incendiary rounds for the mortars are outlawed?

And here I was thinking one round from M&T's monster morter would be landing with a splintering .....

Nice Fort DD ! It will be a pleasure to shoot at although there maybe some direct hits that go ...'unseen' by the ...'draftyness' factor ,of course of course .

If I remember, but the siege will last 1 hour.

Double D., if someone takes Dittles up on making the video, will you be passing out extra cannons to everyone from your personal armory, so the video of the fort's final destruction can have all the excitement of a Sam Peckinpah movie?

Given some filed expedient work I could actually field one 1" smooth bore Parrot, one 1" 42  PDR smooth bore,  one GB 8 inch siege howitzer, a 50 cal. navel guna and 58 cal. field gun to take on the fort defenses.   Then for the siege of the fort a 6PDR coehorn, Popcan Dictator, pop can coehorn and a GB Coehorn...

The Smooth bore Parrot is a real possibility. the GB  8 inch is unlikely.

Unless some one shows up up with a fairly large direct fire gun, I think it will be Mortars and the bowling ball mortars at that, that will destroy the fort.

The Fort is 6' high and 7' x 8' square.  It is a  large target.  It will be put on the range tomorrow.  It will be in place Saturday during open range.  You won't be allowed to shoot  at the fort on Saturday, but there isn't any reason you can take ranging shots.

Maybe my 2 pounder (Pb) mountain howitzer (2 5/32" shot.)  Depends on range.

I would think that if anyone has a beercan Howie that that would make short work of Fort Pallet. Otherwise if you elevate the rear of your beercan mortars you could use them as field expedient Howies.

Or not!

For the small bore guns, a bunch of one gallon jugs of red food colored water would go a long way for dramatic affect.  Otherwise, you won't see much.  You are not likely to see a .50 caliber hole in a pallet at 200 yards.  But an exploding red blast would get everyone cheering.

I recently  received a bright orange bowling ball . That will be my last shot at the fort . I need to weigh the balls and get a few practice rounds in with the various weights .
This sounds like too much fun !!!
