Gun Shows

Since it’s so darn hot here I spent the afternoon yesterday at a gun show.  It was one of the best shows I have been to lately.  There were a lot of old guns, rolling blocks, trap doors, old Winchesters and Colts, and for the most part the prices seemed to be very fair.  There were three ammo dealers, their prices ranged from one extreme to another.  I picked up a box of .380 95gr JHP for $16.00.  That was the lowest I have seen them in the past couple of years.  I made an offer of $400. on a used Sig 238, (complete with box, papers and two extra mags) the guy turned me down but said he would call me today if it didn’t sell. (I haven’t heard from him yet. ??? ??? ??? ) My grandson bought a beautiful little H&R 929 for $130.00, he took it out to the farm after he dropped me off and fire it, said it shot well.

Just food for thought, someone said yesterday that many of the guns were coming out of private collection and being sold due to the economy.  It seems the guns are the first thing to go when the rent is due and there is no food on the table.

I missed the last local gun show, plan on making the one in Sept. Even if I don't buy anything, its fun to just go and look. I have found it kind-a hard to find good deals at gun shows unless you go the last few hours of the last day.  I have tried to deal on a gun the first day, and dealers generally will not budge from their asking price, which is generally higher than what I think the gun is worth.  A gun is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and most times, by the last day most dealers will agree to less than what they originally were asking. 

Don't really know, but I think my guns would be one of the last things to sell in hard times. I guess it might be different for people with a large collection.

Some folks are hard up for cash and selling thier guns. I just picked up a Marlin 336 in 30-30 for $150. The guy had an AK 47 full auto for $650, but I don't have the proper license for that. Just shop around, they are out there.

I was in a Cabala's store today. I was amazed at the number of used guns on the floor. They had people lined up wanting to sell all kinds of firearms.

Must be a regional thing.  Around here nobody but nobody is turning loose of anything.  I do have dealers that have contacted me wanting to buy only to discover I'm trying to buy also.  They're trying to find someone willing to sell because they just can't come up with enough used guns to fill the demand.  The demand is for cheaper priced quality guns though and therein lies the problem.  I have a better chance than the dealers because I may be willing to pay a tad more because I'm not looking to make a quick turnover.

I was at a show in NC last weekend... most stuff overpriced/retail numbers, from what I saw. There was a plain-jane 336W with a $400+ price tag. Yikes. Ammo still waaaaaay too high.


On the bright side... found & took home a truly nice Mosin M91/30 for 80 bucks. That, and 440rds ammo for another $80, had me leaving the show with a smile.

I love gun shows. My son and I have gotten some pretty sweet deals at them too. My son's last one was a very sweet T/C Hunter Pro in 7mm Mag. I got my Kel Tec PF-9 and P-32 at the same show. Don't always have the money to buy something but love looking. Particularly both the vintage firearms and the new ones I haven't handled yet.

its about the same here where im at in MO.good deals on quality guns just are not there like they used to be.the buddy to buddy trade has dried up for me, everybody is setting on what they have and not really buying anything at all.if your a family man the increased price of gas and groceries has eaten up that extra 100 or 200 buks that used to go in the gun fund every month.
