FIRING the hand-held golf-ball 'Hand Gonne'
« on: January 04, 2004, 11:28:09 AM »
One golf ball over about 100gr of FFFg.

Gloves - to prevent powder burns as well a padding.

My friend lit the fuse, another readied the camera.

BLAM!  Good report, and actually a brisk but mild recoil.

BUT - SMOKE SMOKE SMOKE .

Couldn't see a thing for the sparks and the smoke!

THEY said it went well past the 100 yard end of the range - into the woods.

Then we tried TWO golf balls (both TopFlight's if it matters).

One went significantly further than the other - again 150-200 yards out there.

Great fun, ahhh the smell of black powder and sulpher!!!

Next will be to adapt the iron to a 6' long pole.

Pictures when they're processed and scanned.  Likely to be a lot of blurring - it's tough to gently squeeze the shutter release in the presence of the muzzle blast!

fired it in January, finally finished the roll and had it processed.  See below:

Beautiful Mortar and real good photos of the shooting. You sure do have more guts than I do! I don't even like to shoot my .357mag.

I hate to have to put this in print, but to be truthful several things come to mind:

"You've got to be tough if you're stupid" is the first.

"No guts, no glory" is the longest remembered (Army).

In reality, the golf ball is light and the mortar is very heavy.  It kicks less than say a .38 special.

BUT it sure LOOKS tough!  AND the first time I fired it (that's me in the short sleaves) I DIDN'T KNOW THAT.
