Metal sealant and waterproofer.
« on: August 09, 2011, 12:59:55 PM »
At a gun show last weekend, a guy had a setup with a pistol soaking in a water barrel.  I usually don't stop to look at this stuff, but this caught my eye.  The product he was selling is called Strike Hold.  It goes on wet, wipes off to a dry lube and waterproofer.  He said the pistol had been in that water over 6 months.  Supposedly this was created for the military and is in use in the desert.

It seems legit, and I bought a small bottle.  I just wiped down an old rifle, and I'm gonna' leave it in the rafters of my shop for a while just to see.

Anyone use it?  I'm still dubious, but open minded.

Hey Ben!

I'd never heard of it either until Lacy Smith of Alabama Damascus told me that's what he uses to protect his blades and suggested I try it.  I'll be waiting for the results of your test!   ;D

Did you find a local source or is it all mail order?   :-\

Richard, I bought this at a gun show, but it can be ordered from their website.  I paid $7.00 for a 2 oz. bottle, more than enough to do all my firearms, as it only takes a few drops.

It will take a while before I know for sure, but I can say it will clean a bore nicely, and wipes dry.  I can already say it's great on my semi autos.  Better than graphite based or oil based anyway.

Ben,  wouldn't you have to completely dismantle the gun and smear it on everything?

I did that on one semi auto.  It is a wicking penetrant as well, so if you spray it in the bolt for instance, shake it off and wipe away the excess, it should do ok.  I'm doing a test on some carbon steel knives that I coated and dipped one in lemon juice, the other in battery acid.  I'll give it a few days.
