Good point on the canning. We plan to do that too for the first time. But we don't have a lot of jars. All of them are full of salmon. Friends gave us some canned moose and yes it is VERY handy to shake out of the jar, warm in the microwave and chow down. And that canned meat is always tender. We finally tried quarts for salmon this year but can only get 8 jars in the cooker vs 16 pints, and it takes a long time cooking. Our friends have a canner that takes 36 pints - maybe I can borrow that one.
Well 3 mornings to the opener , I woke up with a cold this morning, and my boat's gas tank showed a leak when I started to fill it the other night. I'll just take things one at a time and see how it works out.
thanks for ideas. Several cases of quart jars is cheaper than a freezer and keeping it running. And I have no space for a 3rd freezer.
Good luck to all and for Pete's sake think safety. Seems like Alaskans are dying left and right the last 2 weeks. Pilots keep up your air speed and don't push the weather.
