My two favorites......1944 HS HD Military and my Ruger MKll competition slab side. Two better guns have never been made.
Quality will be remembered long after price is forgotten

I am kind of a 22 Slut.
I own 3 Browning buck marks  all three are different models.
I have owned Ruger autos, but liked the Browning better.
I have a S&W M17 6" with target sights and really like it, I did have a 4" model a fw years back that I never shoudl have sold.
I do have a Ruger Bisley model and it is a great revolver
I reciently added a High Standard Military target model 107.  Like the one I shot in Military school and I need to practice with it.
And rounding out the 22 Pistol pile is a tiny walther.TPH.
I am toying with the idea of getting a conversion kit for one of my Sig P series pistols.

I would like to get a .22LR pistol but I would really like that can take large capacity clips like a 25 round clip.  Do they make .22LR pistols to take these big of clips or not?  What is a good 22LR pistol for less than 500?  Any tips or tricks on this subject would be great appreciated?

This should be your own post, but to answer the question.
There are no conventional auto pistols  that have a mag in the grip that holds that many in 22LR.
There was a 22 MAG that held 30 rounds and looked like a walther P-38
There are handguns like the Ruger Challanger that have the mag infront of the trigger guard and can take any of the high capacity 10/22 mags where the more than 10 rounds are legal.
But the high capacity will not make up for poor marksman ship.
For less than $500 you have choices in some new and quite a few good semi auto pistols.

Just bought a S&W 41A.  Haven't had one of these in years.  It's range ready, but I haven't had time to shoot it yet. The 41 is the most comfortable handling pistol I've owned.

The best & most accurate is my High Standard Supermatic Trophy model 104 with 2 barrels.

The most used & very accurate are my Ruger standard model 6  7/8" barrel & my Mark I Target 5 1/2" barrel.

I think the bottom line is what you feel comfortable with and what shoots best.  Also, one needs to consider what the pistol is going to be used for.  That why we buy multiple guns.:)

I have a 10" bull barrel Ruger Mark II that has always been glitch-free, but my "go to" .22 is a S&W 422. It's near as accurate as the Ruger, light, and always works.

Can't beat the Ruger for the money..  Can't pay to much for a good HS or SW41.  If you want the best find a Hammerli 208s...

I really like my Buckmark Challenge, I scoped it and it is accurate. For the sake of nostalgia, Grandpas' S&W Model 46 gets the nod. It is very accurate on days I can see the sights.

Guys:  I think ya'll are missing way too much fun.  Yes, your 1940s and 1950s 22s that Dad gave you can still shoot and are dear to you and I seriously doubt, now that you know, that you would ever get rid of  any so you could possibly pass history and heirloom off  to your children.  But, some of the new 22s are just way too much fun to overlook.
I have owned Rugers and Ruger Target models since the MkI and still have a MkII Government Model, a older High Stanadard, a Beretta pocket 22 but my most favorite is my (now) 4 y/o Walther P22.
The Walther is just way too much fun.  I try and get out at least once a week (now that the weather is nice) and run through a qualification course with a big bore but to warm me up (so to speak) I run through the course first with the Walther.  And after the course-work, so to speak, I line up the empty pop cans, old dead vegetables from last years garden harvest, and those orange (kan't kill'm) self sealing targets and have a ball.  Large boxes of ammo just seem to disappear quickly....My buddy got one at the same time I did but he is still nervous and jerky with the darn thing, so I gotta learn'm good.....
In fact, I have such a good time with the P22 that I turned down a new PPK/S in 380 for the new Pk380;  it felt much the same as the P22 and has similar controls and sights.  The grip is also better for me as are the sights.
When I purchased my P22, and the Pk, I registered the pistols on line Walther and answered the questions on the registration form but have a complaint.  They don't have any categories that you can fill out, or comment boxes, that would let them know how much fun their pistols are, or register a complaint, like why the hay does one of America's oldest firearms manufacturer use gun locks made in China.  I mean, like, ya know.........  That P22 of mine is just waaaay too much fun.

Not saying the new ones are not good, I like my modern 22's but the few older ones I have are really neat, the fit and finish is fantastic.  That classic feel of a hunk of steel and wood crafted together to make a work of art that is accurate.
the plastic guns kind of remind me of the water guns I had in the 70's and 80's.

Mcwood:  I never played with water pistols and the like, and I really appreciate the old world feel of a good match of steel and wood, but if it doesn't fit my hand and isn't as comfortable as it was when I was semi-indestructable I will go for something else.  While it is true that some of the classics are really works of art not all of us can appreciate them as much as we would like.

The 10-22 is a nice rifle but only plinker accurate as it comes from the factory. The magazine is wonderfully reliable but can create handling problems with stock dimensions. Almost any of the CZ bolts will out shoot them accuracy wise as will most of the old Winchester 22 bolts. My favorite pistol is the Woodsman Match but the prices are obscene a parts are getting hard to find. The S&W 41 is a fantastic weapon but again pricey. The highstandards (I prefer the Supermatic Military frame style) are fantastic shooters and if you stay away from collectables not too pricey. I have 2 barrels  for mine and love the adjustable trigger. Magazines are critical to function.. The Rugers are cheaper and are very robust. I prefer the Military frame, polymer with detachable grip panels. Cleaning is more difficult than the HS pistols and thet usually reqire work to do their best work. I would reccommend the HS as a best buy. Pushbutton takedown, interchangeable barrels, great triggers (adjustable too) and good buys, as thet will likely not loose value over time..

S&W 22S pistol is an all around, great shooting pistol, solid stainless steel, plus it's competitively priced.
Trigger pulls on the 22S are nice and crisp, and not excessively heavy like the Ruger Autos....not that Ruger's are unsuitable.
Matter of fact, Ruger 22LR autos are probably the strongest 22 pistol made, dollar for dollar.
The S&W 22A model is decent as well, however, I disdain aluminum alloy as a durable gun-making metal, hence I'd by-pass that model.

Most all of High-Standard's Hamden CT built models are very fine 22LR pistols, however, their frames have been known to crack under heavy usage, so those pistols should be limited to light-duty range usage, IMO.
I have a Model #41 Smith too, and it's holsterable since it's a 5.5" barreled model, however, I'd opt for My S&W 22S, if desiring to go afield with an auto 22LR pistol.
Stainless steel is the way to go for an outdoors gun, and btw; if I was truly intending to go hunting with a 22LR handgun, My first choice would likely be My T/C Contender with 10" bull bbl and scope, rather than a 22LR auto.  ;)

Yes, I love all My rimfire handguns (22LR, 22 WMRF, 17 HMRF), and rifles as well.....they're simply My favorite firearms, hands down!
It is.....what it is...

ONLY when guys give them a steady diet of high velocity or hyper velocity ammo, as they have recoil springs in them for std. V ammo.  Keep std. V ammo in them with a recoil spring that's good, and you won't have frame cracking.

FOR THE $$$...Mk II or III with 5 1/2 BB.  I have an original Supermatic Trophy 5 1/2 BB (sub 1" 5 shot groups @ 50 yards & best trigger ever), Browning Buckmark (not overly impressed but it's okay), New Ruger SR22 (Really fun for plinking but "It ain't a Mk III"), Orig Ruger Mk I standard barrel & fixed sights (still fun for plinking & shoots where you point...nothing fancy...just keeps on going). I have had a Browning Challenger (was just okay...had a pretty gold trigger) & a couple MK II with  5 1/2 BB's.  I still think they are the best $$$ out of the box.  Just my .015 cents worth....
