If it was cashed by a crook is it backed by the USPS or am I in for the wait
till they catch crook then told restitution will be paid at a penny a day for
4000 days or is it 40,000
I understand the USPS is going through workforce cuts I truly hope this
is just a sign of slow delivery to prove they need the manpower

You'll have to provide the receipt and submit a money order inquiry(PS 6401) at your local post office, they'll either show who cashed it, or replace it, I think that will take some time tho, used to be 45 days, but it may have changed, there's also a fee for submitting the inquiry, used to be about $5.

Tommyt,

When I send a USPS MO of a large amount, I usually send it by certified mail.  This way it provides a way to track the letter.  I recently had a similar situation, I followed the letter to the central PO in Portland, OR, then it disappeared from sight.  A week after it was supposed to arrive at it's destination, the letter was discovered in the local post office (in WA state) where it was supposed to be delivered.  The postal clerk didn't scan it as arrived in the post office, so the letter sat in a box at the PO, until I asked the person who I sent the MO to, to ask his local PO if they had a certified letter for him.

Good luck, hoping the MO is just delayed.  It's a pain in the tail to have to go thru all that nonsense to get a replacement.  In the meantime, you have to come up with the original amount to cover the bill, which you already paid.  :(

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

Went thru this about a year ago with a guy on e=bay. Contacted the post office, they said had to wait 30 days. After 30 days filed a claim with them, within a week had my money back, plus the cost of the money order. Resubmitted the funds to the seller and got my item, week latter the seller was no longer on e-bay, found out he had gotten the first money order and cashed it along with the second one. Through a postal service friend learned the person had been arrested and charged with mail fraud. Its gonna be a WHILE before he can do that again.
