How much money ya got ain't got nuthin to do with it.  Dang folks, the OP is an attorney.  I ain't never seen one of them that went through life broke.  I'm 57 and been retired for 5 years.  The wife and I get what we want.  Maybe we don't have the wants and needs of others.  I still say, if folks learned to get along with less and put a bit of effort into taking care of what they already have, we would all be better off.  Just no need to do away with things that still have value as long as you can supply a little effort.

Am I frugal or just strange... Richard, these things are not mutually exclusive.   :D

I do agree with you that jeans are not comfortable until they're well broken in.  And the line between broken in and ragged is a fine one.  I also like to go in the store, get what I came for, and leave.  The exceptions, of course, are hardware and gun stores.  But that's not shopping, that's exploring possibilities. ;D
Life's too short to waste any of it,

I guess I was a little wild in my youth also. The tops of one pair of my Tony Lamas was turquoise, and I used to wear a red shirt, with a black cowboy hat. My music was pretty edgy too. Merle Haggard was pretty out there I guess.
Yup, you were a wild one! ;D "turquoise tops" on Tony Lamas? That was "edgy" man,  :o , really "edgy".  You were a real clothes horse for sure.  ;) I only had a pair of Frye boots, in plain tan.  ;D
Merle Haggard? Hows about Marty Robbins singing about Big Iron.

Here, here Sir Richard,

Frugality runs in my Scottish heritage.   My father and his entire family grew up during the Depression, his father, after losing his job took to building and refinishing furniture out of a woodshop converted from an old barn.    My father straightened out many a bent nail , and passed on that skill/task to me.   His work shop had mason jars all lined up with sorted out washers, screws, nails, and such - we never had to go to the hardware store...just out back to the shop. ;D
Now as far as dem jeans go.....I lernt me sumpin when I took my two teenagers clothes shopping recently.... :o      We went into the store and up on the display they had the rattiest, frayed, faded jeans with holes in them.... ???     AND they wanted double the price for them  :-\       And thats what my two chirruns wanted to get........

So the way Ima seeing it now you need to take your wore out jeans to a fancy consignment shop and get top dollar for them -  that aways you can by more Handi Stuff.! ;D ;D
I'm just tryin' to keep everything in balance, Woodrow. You do more work than you got to, so it's my obligation to do less. (Gus McCrae)

Well boys, it's good to know I'm in such fine company!   ;D  Y'all make me feel better about myself.   ;)

Underware ?? Whats that?
And you call your self frugal.   ::)

Now that's a whole 'nuther subject... runnin around nekkid that is!   :P

I always found cloths a little constraining myself.  Why I even took the ol' saw "there ain't nuthin better for the inside of a man then the outside of a horse" to that end!  Manys the night I'd get home after midnight, shuck off my cloths and ride my horse bareback (and barebutt) around the paddock.  Downright relaxin it was!   :D  'course, most of the time the fact that I was a little... um... let's say, Pre-relaxed might a had something to do with it...  ::)

But I lived in the country then.  When we moved to a sub-division as a concession to modesty I got the last bit of use outa those jeans but turning them into cut-off's.   ;D

Alas and alack I had to stop that as well...  :(  My kids wouldn't talk to me and the neighborhood teenage girls were all a twitter about my "Daisy Dukes!"   :-\

I had to shop once with my wife , saw some jeans that cost over $100.00 , they looked like mine do after pipe fitting a in an old equipment room. You know rust all over and holes from weld splatter. So holly jeans are all the rage. Some seem to wear um low and have holes so their undies show . So Richard you are still in style with them holly jeans just nix the patches  ;D . As for beating nails stright I still remember a few blood blisters from that operation  ;) . Wrangler on sale for $14.00 is my choice .

There is a big differnce between cheap and frugal.
Cheap rarly works out.  Frugal makes sense.
I have been cheap.  I had a 2 C cell Mag light when they were expensive.  Instead of spending $3 for a hammer I used the butt cap of the flash light. Over time I broke the switch of a $20 flash light rather than spend $3 for a hammer.
I bought an AK to get cheap ammo rather than buy bulk 06 for the garand in a target shoot.  I bought the AK because it was 1/3 the price of the AR.  I now have an inaccurate AK that is not worth what I paid for it, and ended up spending for ammo for the 06 and buying an AR and spending good money after the semi bad money of the AK.
Frugal is buying a whole chicken and cutting it up your self for fried chicken and using or saving the Hearts, Livers, necks and backs for other things.  Cheap is buying chicken parts in the old meat section.  Some times it will work out for you.... Other times it will not and may cost you more.

Note to self:  Save money... buy jeans at Dollar General.

this depression our country and maybe the world is in is because we don't buy high priced jeans .

Note to self:  Save the economy... buy jeans at The Gap.

???   :-\  Wait... I'm confused   :-[  If I save money the economy will be bad and if I spend money it will be good... but if the economy is bad then I should spend money I don't have to make things better.  So does that mean if the economy is good I should not spend the money when I have it or must I spend more then I have to keep the economy growing?   :-\  Now I'm really confused... my head hurts... I'm beginning to feel like a democrat... I need a drink...  :'(

Hey McWoody!  You know, I thought everybody did that until someone, can't remember who, but someone who was watching me cut up a chicken commented that they had never seen anyone do that before.   :o

And the hearts, livers, and backs are great for any number of things!  But you forgot the gizzards.   ;)  I love fried liver, gizzards and hearts!   :P

I've been kinda leery of necks since I heard the urban legand about growth hormones or such being injected in them but I do use 'em as part of the giblets for the gravy.

Depends on where you are in the economy as to if you should spend or not.  If the good is needed and the moeny is not then spend, if the good is not needed and the money could be needed incase of loss of Job, then put off  the purchase.
A democrat would try to use my money to buy you and three under privledged peole a pair of jeans saying I have too much.

I do not like the gizzards.  maybe I don't know how to cook them.  like the livers and love the hearts.  It is illegal to inject a chicken with hormones in the US.  Hormone free is a marketing ploy.  All the chickens are hormone free.  So stew that neck and make a good stock, and pick the neck for soup meat when cooled.

Well, I agree I got a great wife.  The perfect woman for me!  Hi-ebber, and day always be a hi-ebber,  ;D  Kathie wouldn't recognise a sewing needle if it stuck her!   :D  And she doesn't cook or do laundry...  :-\  Fortunately I like to cook, and I do the washing because I'm real particular about how my laundry is done, so we're a perfect match!   ;)

I'll give you an example, we used to get home from work about the same time before she retired.  One evening I went to the kitchen to make supper and get her a glass of wine.  As I was taking the glass to her I stopped and looked at the situation.  There Kathie was, sitting on the couch, reading the newspaper, watching the news on TV, waiting for me to bring her wine and cook her supper.   ???  Right off I realised there was something wrong with this picture.   :-[

And I'm looking at a new sewing machine right now!   :P

You sound normal to me. I was 30 before I owned more than 3 pairs of jeans at one time. When I was kid mom used the iron on patches for my work jeans. I was not allowed to work or hunt in my school jeans. Every year I would get two new pair of school jeans which by the end of the school year were looking pretty short. Got real tired of kids asking me "you expecting a flood". When I was in the eight grade I was 6'3" and weighed 126lbs and my pants were never long enough. Caused more than one scrap. Every fall mom would take the old school jeans and cut them up and sew them up into the nicest "huntin sacks" with a over the shoulder strap and a handy pocket for my extra .22 shells and squirell call. Many many squirells and rabbits have come home in those sacks.

Man if there is anything better than fried chicken gizzards I havent found it. There is alittle store in sebastion where we go to the rifle range that has either gizzards or livers depending on what day it is.

Nope I see no problem sounds perfectly normal to me

Oh and I almost forgot to mention. Sounds like you wife and my ex could be sisters. My ex looked kinda like Jenifer Anniston.....well except for the unibrow and mustache. She never cooked much and when she did it was so bad the flies chipped in and bought us a screen door.

Good luck with the sewing machine..... ;D ;D

Shopping for clothes is not fun; I'd much prefer to spend the money on another milsurp and some more ammo.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.
