Which Model of 45-70?
« on: August 14, 2011, 05:25:19 PM »
Watching this video closely, I see that this isn't just an everday "run of the mill" Handi barrel. It appears to be a Shakiri? The round fired seemed to have a bit more potency to it than a trapdoor load. Maybe it's a Shakiri barrel on a SB2 receiver??

I don't think it's a Shikari, the receiver doesn't have the low profile hammer that the older receivers had. I don't think the barrel is a Shikari either, it looks like the barrel has one of those clamp on sling studs. Shikaris have the brass cleaning rod that goes into the forend.

It's a very cool gun in the video regardless  ;D

Looks like a standard 22" Handi firing a trapdoor load to me, she probably doesn't weight much more the 110lbs, so recoil looks light considering.  ;)

I thought I saw more than just a sling stud on the barrel, almost looked like a cleaning rod of sorts. Either way, I agree, it is a cool gun!

After watching the video 6 more times and stopping it at just the right time, I think I saw a ramrod too! Hard to tell for sure tho, kinda out of focus. Barrel looks too short for a Shikari barrel unless it was cut off, they're 24" and 28" IIRC.

6 more times! Don't let your wife catch you doing that... ;D  No way would she believe the "I was just looking at the gun barrel" story. :D

Thanks, Dinny

I thought I saw the ramrod at exactly 10 seconds into the video.

Not a Shikari..Forearm is an early model SB2..Used to have one, and now own a Shikari..didn't see a ramrod..but there were a couple of 44's being carried concealed...

What you see as a ram rod is just a blur in the video. At about 20 to 23 seconds you get a good look at the profile of the barrel. No ram rod.
You also get a good look at 37, 49, and 102 seconds.

tim you are correct the shikari came out in 28"barrel and the carbine with 24" barrel.the gun in the vidio is not a shikari its just a handi rifle  with a barrel sling stud

Looked like a standard 45-70 with a barrel band sling mount. Look at the rifle not the handguns. (I had to view several times to see the rifle) ::)
The caliber of the handguns was wrong also. A 36 B model. One would think shooters were a liitle more precise. ;D

Just about got in trouble myself but lied my way out of it. The War. Dept. looked over my shoulder and accused me of looking at that  "  blankety blank Handi forum"  so I told her I was just watching porn!
