Tom,

You want me to load you up some 458WM "proof" loads for your new African Safari Grade Profino-Topper?  :o ;D ;)
If you get it I can't wait for your detailed report on this "fine" weapon.

Tom you did a fine thing by getting that off the market. I had an idea that perhaps the supposed reinforcing plate on the left side of the receiver could be nothing more than a plate held on by two screws in the holes where a side mounted receiver sight may have been mounted. I have seen H&R's in the past where a receiver sight had been mounted with two drilled and tapped holes in that location on the receiver...All the best and be sure to post a video of the first firing of the gun. That might help to explain why there is noit a matching plate on the right side. The builder/maker just had to cover up 2 already drilled and tapped holes...<><....:)

Thank you Dinny and Mr. White for doing your part to get this "gun" out of circulation.

As an aside, does a good deed such as this trump whatever bad Mr. White did to get kicked off this site?  I'm a new guy and everything, so I don't know anything about what might have transpired, but he certainly did the right thing here.

NO, nothing he can do will trump what got him banned. He is never coming back to this site. The conversation about him is OVER.

Bill,
Thanks for weighing-in on this matter and straightening us out. Sometimes our minds start to wander when we have too much time on our hands. ::)

I've been lurking for a long time on this site, almost always in the H&R areas, and enjoying its benefits without making a contribution.  One of the biggest differences that sets this site apart from most other places on the is the character of its members and administration.  For the most part, you can trust what the "regulars" have to say as being an honest, thoughtful, well reasoned and responsible opinion, offered in a spirit of friendship and with good humor.  This thread demonstrates the character I've come to expect from this site and the people who run it and contribute to it.  Threads such as this tend to  make me trust the facts and opinions stated in the the technical posts, which I've found to be extremely helpful, and also tend to make me like and respect my "friends" from this site that I will never meet.  So ...... ya'll carry on and I'll shut up and lurk.

As another thought, since this is a never before offered caliber in the H&R, here in the United States, by law, the gun is supposed to be tested with PROOF HOUSE TEST LOADS that are loaded to 80,000 psi. These specific loads normally come from the gun firm of HOLLAND & HOLLAND.
Do you think this specific gun can handle those PROOF HOUSE LOADS?

Although not a US proof house, this does show that the EU standard is to proof their guns with a 25%-50% higher than maximum load. Under Proof Firing.

Thanks, Dinny

I've gotta give a huge thumbs up to Dinny, David and Tom. The three of you probably saved someone's life by getting this thing off the market.

For what it's worth... I've given Tom (Oldsoldja) alot of grief for buying up everything but never again. I've got absolute respect for the man now. Good on you Tom and thanks. ;)
