If you could tell the gun makers what to make!!!
« on: August 18, 2011, 12:48:52 PM »
What would be???

Me? I wish Ruger would make a stretch frame Bisley 5 shot 357max, 500 S&W, 500 necked down to a 475, and any 458 round (why does no one make a 458 cal revolver?)
oh yea while your at it the 445 super mag

And one more I would like to see, the Ruger 22/45 made in a 32cal with some power (not a mag, but more than a 32 auto) in say a 5" slab sided bull barrel. I think it would make a great all around woodsman auto. Not to big and not to small.

Yeah, the 1911 is a good design but how many different brand names do we really need?  I wouldn't care but for the fact that when a maker tools up for a new gun that means they can't consider any other actually NEW designs until they've recouped some of that investment. For example, I'd rather see Ruger produce a semi-auto pistol in .22 WMR and .17 HMR or a big bore hunter's semi-auto or anything we don't already have rather than just another name on the 1911. The fact that we often see this "what do you want" discussion demonstrates that there are lots of niches not being filled.

An octagon barrel is something that Ruger should look into. A lot of fans like the look and the feel of an octagon. Just look at the after-market world looks like half of there work is octagon.

Now that you say this I would love a Ruger Bisley with an octagon barrel in 500 S&W special with a 5 1/2" barrel with glow sights. But in Blue.

S&W:  Redesign N frame so that cylinder stop cuts are between chambers, rather than at thinnest part of the chamber.
Make a 629 5" standard barrel, not full lug.
Make a Pro model M&P in .357 Sig with 5" barrel
Make a Pro model M&P in 10 mm with 5" barrel
Quit using dovetail rear sights on M&P semi auto.  Instead, mill and drill and tap a flat area which can be used for "melt in" installation or reflex sights.  Design a new style of rear sight which can mounted on the milled area with screws.

Glock: Make the Model 20 10 mm with the same length barrel as the models 34, 35  (5.3")
Make the Model 29 10 mm more like the model 19 with regard to barrel length and length of grip frame
Make a Glock in .22 LR to match the size and feel of the models 22 and 23

Ruger: A Redhawk with 5 shot cylinder for .454 Casull with 4 or 5" barrel.
Make bolt action hunting rifles in .280 Rem

Remington:  Make more Model 700 with detachable box in .280 Rem and 6 mm Rem

Savage:  Make hunting rifles with detachable box mag. in .280 Rem, and 7mm WSM

All brands:  Make hunting rifles with no rear dove tail or rear sight on the barrel, but include higher fold down front sight.  Include a quick detachable rear aperture ghost ring sight which mounts to a scope base on the receiver.   Make the comb of the rifle stock high enough for scope use.  Include good adjustable trigger 2.5 to 4.5 lb.

Browning:  More models in 6 mm Rem.

I too think T/C needs some competition!!! I think it would make for better quality in the T/C as well as giving us a choice. I miss the XP100 and the Weatherby bolt handgun. Wasn't there another brake open that had a 1911 type frame. And there was a 1911 conversion single shot too. Someone needs to give T/C a run for there money.

Question for Ruger Firearms, Inc......and yes, I have requested the following from Ruger, to no avail.

How about some decent, wide (factory made) target triggers and target hammers for the Ruger DA handguns?
None of the sintered metal junk, either.
Cast them, or forge the pieces, and make them available as a shooter's kit.
Power Custom, Inc also showed little interest in building the Ruger DA target components, even though they build all kinds of kits for Ruger SA guns.

**sigh**
It is.....what it is...

For all the Ruger requests...

Go to Ruger.com and click on the link to contact the CEO.  Don't know if it's for real or not but at least it probably gets read by someone, somewhere.  Also... contact Lipseys, et al.  Let them know what you want.  They carry some water with Ruger so they may be able to get a special run.

Personally, I'd LOVE to see Ruger come out with a traditionally styled lever action in pistol chamberings and one in traditional lever rifle chamberings.  With the quality issues of recent Remlin offering's a nice, American made 1892 type rifle would probably sell well.  Also, something that could handle .30-30 and .45-70 type rounds would probably sell well.  Just polish it well and put some decent would on it.  Nothing fancy just a well made, nice-looking, well-finished lever gun made in America.  They might be able to take the lever gun market back from the Italians and Brazilians...

I did contact Mr. F, the CEO of Ruger about a problem I had with a #1 that was unfixable (gave me my money back).  I just wanted him to know that I spoke with 3 or 4 people who did all that they could to assist me in fixing the problem and when folks do well by you, you should tell the boss.  He sent me hand written thank-you note for my understanding and few decals within a week.

Thank You, NGH......already tried that.
Someone other than the head man did reply back to me, regarding the Redhawk Target Hammer request.

His instruction was to "use the less dominant thumb to cock the revolver, and the dominant hand to grasp the stocks."
It's fairly obvious that he suffers no serious arthritis issues throughout his thumbs/fingers/hands, as I do.

My Smith's target hammers are a pleasure when cocking the action, but the Ruger Redhawk is simply a bigger/heavier gun, and not at all punishing when firing full power 44 mag rounds.
The tiny hammer surface on the Redhawk's hammer becomes slippery in the SW Florida humidity, plus it's angled upward, which is a pita as My age advances.

If only Bill Ruger Senior (God rest His soul), had designed the Redhawk series with a target hammer and trigger, it would have been near perfect!
I've owned mine for almost 30 years now, and it's been My absolute sweetheart on many a big game hunt, and tin can-killing excursion.
It is.....what it is...

Rutin2tin,

Sorry about that uncle-arthur problem...  I think that Ruger may keep a count of requests for different items.  I think that if enough folks said... "I'd buy a model 77 if you made it in .357 Mag..." they'd make one.  Don't know if that's how it came about or not but it sounds reasonable.  I'm not sure there would be a huge market for them to do up a hammer/trigger for the Redhawk.  Seems like that should exist already somewhere in internet-land though.  I hope you come up with something though.

Coonan makes a 357mag in the 1911 style http://www.coonaninc.com/index.php/cPath,5 it may could be made it to a 41mag. And I think it's a good idea for a gun.
