ejector to extractor question
« on: August 18, 2011, 03:57:29 PM »
hi
i read faq and changed a 30-06 barrell to extractor from ejector.
i used the grind the shaded area out technique, but extractor feels kinda loose and occassionally misses hull on opening.
my question is do i just buy a new extractor and put it in to fix this?
will it fit correctly without drilling new holes for pins since it was ejector?
thank you
mark

Not necessarily, could be a bad/missing lift spring or lift button. Some members have shimmed the ejector so it doesn't drop down so far. Buying a new 30-06 family ejector is not a possibility, no one makes them any more.

An extractor claw won't work in an ejector underlug until the underlug has been modified, new holes drilled and an extractor cam and spring added, see the factory ejector to extractor conversion in the FAQs.

IF you are Handi with a dremel and can find a 30-30 ejector one can make the 30-06 ejector.  As Quick would say  "I can't tell you how I know this". ;)

That's the lift button, it's only used on rimless ejector barrels, you can make one easily, dimensions are in the FAQs on the rimmed to rimless ejector conversion page or you can order one from Brownells.
