Advice
« on: August 19, 2011, 06:48:44 AM »
Just got a 45# Wonderbow on Ebay. I haven't shot since I was a kid[I/m 62].I had no idea of all the different arrow weights and material, and accessories avaliable. Know I need a stringer, glove, armguard. Not even sure my old carpenter sholders and elbows can even still draw this weight, but I'm going to give it a shot. Kinda want to try being a boy again. Any advice or opinons any of you have will be appreciated. Will just be target shooting for now.
                                    Thanks, Bill

Well, couple quick thoughts.  First is if you're concerned about being able to pull it back, get ahold of a cheapo 30# kids bow and start with that for a while to increase your shoulder strength and then move up.  I had pulled my old 65# recurve out of the dust myself and used a lighter one to work up.  Could barely pull the string to full draw, let alone hold her there.  I just shot 10 times every couple days with the lighter one and after a little bit, the shoulder could shoot a few from the heavier pull bow.  You won't get the same POI of course, but it's still good windage practice.  ;)

I think its cool you wnat'n to enjoy a bow the way you did as a kid, I think thats a big reason a lotta guys enjoy it so much.

When I was 8 or 9 years old my neighbor had a fiberglass bow he drug around, I coudnt take my eyes off of it, nothin fancy about it but for some reason it just had me fascinated, & I'm still that way at 45.

OH YEAH...have fun & keep us posted on how it goes.
I've never been lost,,,just rite fearsome confused for a few months.

Its been my experience that most of the shakespear  wonderbows pull pretty smoothly for a factory recurve. I've owned 2 in the past that where good shooting recurves. The one I hunted with shot heavy ash wood arrows really well. Got the arrows from Allegheny mountain arrow woods. If you draw an inch less than 28" you will be drawing about 42# it will lose about 2.5# per inch less in draw length. So 26" draw will give you about 40# draw weight. After you figure what your draw length and draw weight will be, then go for your arrows. Good luck! scout4<><
