Marlin closing up shop

Just read today that John Taffin reports that Marlin is closing their doors... ;)  Seems the holding company that owns Remington & Marlin is closing Marlin up for good. Taffin states their reason is the terible Quality controll issues that they can't get under control.  :o

It would be a disaster to just close the doors. Why not just sell it and cut the losses. Marlin has a legendary name that sells guns just on the name. No reason not to get QC in order and make money. I don't believe it.

Marlin announced that it would close its North Haven plant, and move the work to Remington plants in Ilion, New York, and Mayfield, Kentucky

I know many here love Remington, but Remington has always put profit over quality. Marlin being sold to Remington was the worst thing that could ever happen to them.  Remington as of late has suffered from poor quality control in many of their rifles due to cost cutting measures. It seems this may have trickled down to marlin with Remington's cost cutting bean counters. I know a company has to do what it has to do to stay in business, but I hate to see good American stuff being cheapened to the point of garbage. I know there are many companies that are putting out copies of Winchesters, but it ain't the same.  I guess Marlins will be next.  I will only buy pre-Remington Marlins.

One nice thing about the handi's. They are about as cheap as you can get. Be pretty hard to cheapen them more.

Turns out to be a false report.  Remingtion has always made the best rifles and shotguns in the world.  They do seem to have problems with Marlin but those problems go back at least 10 years.

Marlin closed up shop in CT and moved south quite a while ago... March of 2010 I believe is when they started packing up and moving.

i dont know about marlin closing down but remington rifles suck.every one we get into the shop we have to send them back for one issue or another.i just bought a marlin xv7h and that thing is a tackdriver.about 400.00 cheaper than a remington in the same configuration.used the 400.00 savings to buy a quality optic to put on it......

You're mistaken.  Marlin bolt guns are having tons of problems right now.  Nothing beats a Remington...never has, never will.

Has anyone else noticed that Remington's downward spiral began, in earnest, about the same time as they began their move South? A lot of their stuff is just overpriced junk anymore.

I hear so much about the Marlin X series bolt guns I'm going to go buy one soon. I hear again a few posts back how accurate they are. I can't remember the last time I heard Marlin X bolts were not accurate.

I don't see why assimilating Remington's poor quality control with Marlin is out of bounds.  Marlin seemed to make the old 30-30 lever gun for over a hundred years with a good reputation and now that has changed.  Well the only thing that has changed lately is new ownership. With Remington's poor quality control as of late, and that has been well documented; why would that not enter the discussion pertaining to Marlin since they are in direct control? Call Remington's oldest repair center in the USA which is in Aiken, SC..The Gun Rack.. and ask them what Remington has done with Marlin....
