Today the photo posts have finally caught up with present day.  Just in time for the Washington Navy Yard.  Massive amounts of cannon on display and a very good appreciation of history on display.
 
Found this Bronze just inside the door.

Shooter2,  Thanks for posting the Hotchkiss photo.  That is a good shot of the flat side of the D shaped base ring.  This will help with Hotchkiss #2.  Dom

They go on forever, never seen so many in one place.  Yes that includes Trophy Point at West Point.

 
And yet more, Spanish Bronzes this time.

 
Cannonmn was right, these bronze cannon are melting away. 

 
The only Iron Dahlgren gun in the complex, pretty bad condition as well.  You would think the father of modern guns in the navy would get more representation.

Toured the NRA Firearms Museum, saw a couple of small cannon on display, nothing major, just nice.  Also went to Manassas Battlefield site.  Parrotts, Howitzers, Limbers and Cassions.  Its all good.
On to Florida, probably won't find too many cannons in Space Centre, but later during cruise will visit Fort Zachary Taylor.

You mentioned J. Dahlgren; at the U.S. Navy Museum, did you by any chance take photos of a Dahlgren designed bronze blunderbuss swivel gun equiped with a caplock (it is/was on display in its own glass case)?

             I have a series of shots of this breechloader, on cruise in caribbean currently, will post when it doesn't cost 75 cents a minute.

Currently at Miami Airport with a 6 hour wait for the flight to London.  Got a few shots at Fort Zachary Taylor of various seacoast guns and a Mortar.  Also had an accident with my partner Sue taking a spill on the parapets of the Fort and giving herself a hairline fracture of the upper left arm.  No cast just a restrictive sling and lots of complaints about exploring old forts and looking for cannons.  Not a good cruise for her, mostly lying down in the cabin.  She should come good by London, I hope.

Cannoneer and Kabar2,
                                        Sue is mending slowly.  Her fracture is at the top of the arm and there is extensive bruising down the arm.  I have been slack about posting as I have been doubling up as porter, dresser, cook and bottle washer.  I shall finish off my photo essay on the East Coast with the photos of Fort Zachary Taylor on Key West.  I shall start a new thread on the European leg next.

Nice shots, thanks for sharing. I really need to go check out the Navy Yard. I have lived here 40+ years and never been :o  My wife has a job site 5 minutes from there and I drive by often. Honestly i did not realize there was a museum. ~Zane

                    You must go.  the museum is great, it presents its history very well and there is no end of cannons to look at and examine at your leisure in the parks around the museum.  Highly recommended.
