Does Winchester really think that somebody will pay what the are asking for the new made in Japan Model 94?  You can buy a pristine pre-64 Model 94 for quite a bit less.  You can buy a perfect pre-safety 336 for 1/4th of that.
 
Some new Marlins have a MSRP of over $1000.00.

When do you pay MSRP ?
I don't know about guns but back in the 70's when the oil embargo was going on prices were frozen at Suggested retail or MSRP. Many items in the plumbing industry were to low for profit after the cost of fuel went up. So when oil flowed again and the freeze was lifted those setting MSRP took them as high as possible to avoid the problem in the future. Somr pipe fittings we buy at less than 10% msrp.

Even if the street price is $200-300 less than MSRP it's still way too high for me to consider spending on a lever action.  Besides, they lost me as a customer when they put that stupid tang safety on their levers.
 
The Marlin safety I can tolerate - you can push it off and leave it off or it can be easily de-activated if you wish.  Plus, Marlin didn't ruin the trigger when they put the safety on their guns.
 
I'd much rather buy a couple of pre-64 shooter grade 94's or 3 or 4 used Marlins instead of one new "Japanese copy" of a Win 94!

Well price out a new357 1894 Marlin with the Laminated stock and Xs site rail . Look at the rifle and see what your getting for your money .
 
I bought a 1894 in 44Marlin made by Marlin , then too I made the clerk at the counter -bring them out so I could pick the one with the best fit and action .
 
At least the winchester 92 has good wood to metal finish.And too they are slick to lever right out of the box.
They are over priced in my book , but they seem to be selling .
 
Notice what your paying for a used gun now is what it was worth new not too long ago.
An old timer told me he bought a 303 Savage 99 before the second world war . Said it took two months wages to pay for the rifle . So if we had to do that today , I guess more of us would still be using War time issue instead of a fancy new gun.

i got a buddy that collects winchesters he has a lot new in box unfired he as no problem paying top dollar for them. i could not stand having a gun sitting around in a box with at least not shooting it.he won't even look at a marlin but i like marlins that's what i have shot a lot of critters with em put meat on my table.
