My $6.00 Hatchet
« on: August 24, 2011, 02:55:14 PM »
I found this at the flea market for $6.00.  It's marked Super Banko Sweden.  The handle is marked Green@White LaPeirre, MO. Scout.  My friend was going to toss the sheath awhile back but gave it to me.  At the time it didn't fit anything I had.  The handle was loose and had a nail driven in to hold the head on.  I pulled the nail, made a proper hardwood wedge, filled the end with epoxy, wicked some super glue into it from the bottom, and finished the handle with Min-Wax Satin Tung Oil Finish.  I still need to sharpen it some more.

Nice. Great photography. Looks like you replaced the 20 ga pardner.

Olga...I don't carry all the knives at once.  I picked up the 20 gauge 870 youth for $150.00.

I like the hatchet....... ;)  Thought about buying one several times but I can't seem to wear out the hawk I've been carrying for the last 30years.

It's an inexpensive Kodak digital.  I'll have to get the number off it.

I keep a hawk in the pickup with me. They are many times more useful than a knife, but when you have both, you set to go.

I've kept a hatchet same place in the woodshed for going on 30 years and somebody stole it. I have to buy another before deer season, thats what I use to split the carcass. Worst thing is it was probably family. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:(

I had a family member take a Hudson's bay axe once. Several years later they forgot I was coming and hung it in their garage. I saw it, and took it. The claim was I had given it to them. Not hardly. Their deceased now, I still love them, and the axe is hanging in my shop.

For the money, these aren't too bad.  I have one.  The heads are made in China, but they are tempered and hafted here in the US.

my experience with missing hatchets is that often they are taken and then somehow become part of the forest litter or yard. my son litterally salted the yard and nearby woods with hatchets when he was young!ive found a few of them again over the years tho.

DEE. I did the same thing with a monocular. Went to our boys house one day, it was laying out on the table. I picked it up and put it in my pocket. I said, funnyy I don't remember bringing that over here. It's in my top dresser drawer. POWDERMAN.  :o :o
