Vaquero "faux" Color Case Hard finish
« on: August 25, 2011, 07:31:37 AM »
 :o   Howdy boys......
Don't know if this is new or old or in between........Can someone tell me what, where, or how to get the old finish off of the frame, and what is a good and easy finish to DIY!  Some of the Birchwood Casey finishes/blues seem to work for me....also this is more of a quick cover up to protect the frame.
Does Ruger repair and reapply this pretend CCH?

Ruger will blue it for you, the fake cch was a real disappointment on an old Vaquero I had, had a heck of a time trying to keep it from rusting.
Send it to Ruger for a blue job.  They know they messed up on this finish and will fix it for you.

Or, you could have Doug Turnbull work his magic on it:

There is a heavy liquid clearner  sold at grocery stores that removes bluing , will try to find out name.

As far as cold bluing goes I have had the best luck with Brownell's Oxpho-Blue.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

well...I agree, they are easy to rust up...thus, I simply wipe it down with a rag soaked in Hoppes gun oil after handling it.  I won't change the finish as it looks better with a slightly jacked up case hardened finish than it would blued...in my opinion.  I had surface rust but managed to take it off and unless you knew about it, you probably wouldn't know it ever had rust.

Smokin Joe, don't leave us hangin! What is the rest of the story with that Bisley? Aside from the fact that it is just plain old fashioned beutiful! Though I am not a huge Bisley fan, that one stopped me in my tracks.
