  Did you ever ride the subway in NY. A lot of the cars have signs showing 2 guns. Which one is real? Then it's illegal to paint a real gun to look like a toy and a toy to look like a real one. What's up with that?

P-man, actually a couple toy guns have ''caused'' a death. Here in the Toledo about 20+ years ago, a Toledo cop shot a kid that was waving around a toy gun. That was before they use to put the orange band on the end of the barrel. The gun looked real. Guess the kid thought the cop wouldn't shoot. He was just horsing around according to his friends. Cop wasn't. As far as the buy back goes, stupidity has no bounds. gypsyman

A cop isn't going to take notice of that little orange tip.  A cop will see a gun shaped object in the hand.  The kid caused his own death by not doing what the cop ordered him to do.

Maybe about 25 years ago, hmmm...make that at least 30 years ago... one of the networks ran a special that was called something like "Shoot, Don't Shoot." It showed various training scenarios, invited the home audience to play along. I don't recall if they had a studio audience or just a person on the set, going through it too.  Everyone shot the deaf mute who was walking by some railroad tracks.  He very quickly pulled a black object out of the back of his pants and extended it towards the officer (camera, audience).

   I would suppose there are those who would paint a toy gun to look real..in order to intimidate as well as those who may paint a real gun to look like a toy gun..so they could "get the drop" on a LEO..
   I would see any law prohibiting such an act as an exercise in futility.  What half-wit with murder on his mind is going to be concerned with an added "painting the gun" charge ? .....DUH !
