Dahlgren Boat Howie
« on: August 25, 2011, 02:12:17 PM »
Here are some photos of a boat howitzer I recently built.  12" long barrel with 1" bore and 9" diameter wheels. :)

Dom,
Very nice.  I have a Dahlgren Howitzer in my future as well.  Just need time to build it after my World Trip.

Heard ye the scream of our shells in the night, and the shuddering crashes?

How the heck did I miss this one??  Dominick,  I believe I like this Dahlgren even more than your former,  larger scale, Navy Landing Party Gun, one of which found it's way out to Las Vegas, if I remember correctly.  If you are planning on making a few of these in the next six months or so, please sign me up right now!  Beautiful and so nicely detailed.  This is probably our favorite in the "field artillery" or "Beach Artillery" class.

Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

Tracy,  I wasn't planning on it but I'll keep you in mind that you're interested in one.  Thanks for the compliment.  I may be building a slightly smaller version with all of the same detail as the larger models.  Dom

Boomlover,  Thanks for the compliment.  If I were to appraise it, I would say it's worth about 600 dollars, but as Rick on Pawn Stars sometime says, "That may be what it's worth but that's not what it will sell for."  IF.. I build another, maybe about 400.  This one was a one off deal made from left over stock.  I'd like to down size it to a smaller caliber and wheel size so I can use materials I have in inventory.  Then the price would also come down some.   Dom

Dave SB and Shooter2,  Thanks for the compliments.  No fire and smoke with this one.  It left for NC.  Dom
