everyone is safe tho,  winds are picking up but its hopely the last of it.

I'm in RI on Ct line.  Had squalls all day today, expecting Irene at first light.   I live in the woods...  we could have ground water back up but not more than thresh-hold down stairs.  By then the stuff on the floor would be ruined but hopefully the French drains will work this time.

On the other hand, I have a cottage (rented to our niece & family) that they were directed to evacuate by 6PM tonight.  It's an easy walk to the beach but with a little luck, it won't float.  If it does, I sell a vacant lot in the Spring & take a loss on my taxes.

I am very glad that I no longer work in a boat yard...  these last few days...

Stay safe everyone.

We're getting a lot of heavy rain and the wind is starting to kick up a bit.  Driving home from inlaws about an hour ago there is a lot of tree limbs on the road.  We are also under a tornado watch.

We went through it here with "Rita" a few years back.  It was scary!  We need the rain badly but I don't want it that way.

Kabar-Allen check in!!!!

Thanks for worrying ... KABAR checking in.... Why do these things hit on weekends? Irene was a dang inconvenience and nuisance! lost power 11am on Sat. lots of wind and rain no damage other than two tree limbs down.... still no power at house this am when I left for work, so from the looks of things the north got it worse then we did.... 21 or 22 dead from this storm up and down the east coast... New Hampshire hit bad.

I hope everyone  in the hurricane path is ok.  I been through 3 hurricanes - regardless of strength they are all bad.  The cat 4 left my wife and I without electricity for 6 weeks and 100 trees to cleanup.  It took over a year to cleanup and effect repairs.  Hang in there it improves every day.

We are ok with minimal damage to our property.  50% of tiny RI lost power (340,000), similar in Mass & Ct.  Ct had over 500,000 wo power.  We don't expect power in our rural area until after the weekend.  I'm 2 towns away on a supply run, at a McDonalds.  No power, means no well water, means flushing toilets with a bucket.  Trying to get a generator to fire off for more than 3 minutes.
A lot of tree damage to lines and poles in our rural area.  2 on my short street alone.  Took all utilities to the street.  Our Volunteer Fire Company opened the road with chain saws for Emergency Response reasons.  They can't go near the lines & poles however.
Our town was  83% out yesterday, but my area has 900 still no service.

I'll be in touch,
Russ

Pleasant Surprize!! Power is back ON!! We're done hunkering down! Hot showers & flushing toilets! Yeah!!

We have almost no damage to our property. We had no power since before 6 AM Sunday. No power, means no water. We are bucketing water to flush toilets (or using the camper). We are cooking on propane in the camper or gas grill.
I had trouble getting the fridge in the camper running but finally got it to stay up on propane. We have used coolers to try to keep food cold.

2 Trees down just on our street, one hanging over the road, the other took all lines & wires all the way to the ground. In TINY Rhode Island 50% of people lost power, some 340,000. Ct was just as bad with over 500,000 initially. RI still has 35,000 without power. My rural town had 83 % of power out. The El Co beat their promised power back by Midnight Sunday (1 week + 18 hours).
Higher density areas came back up first of course. Daughter got power back 6 PM Tuesday. She gave away a lot of food before it spoiled.

Frogs?..... Locousts?.......
