I'm looking for a place to hunt dove this season around the Anniston, Gadsden, or Talladega Alabama area.

2.5 hours and counting. I am like a little kid waiting for the ice cream parlor to open.
I grew up dove hunting and never missed opening day until I went in the Army. Missed a bunch over the next 23+ years but since retiring, I haven't missed a one.
Good Luck to everyone. Have a safe and enjoyable shoot.

Everybody thinks the Auburn and Alabama games were moved to 11:00 for TV, but the real reason is DOVE SEASON.
As soon as the games are over, I will hit the field.
Where I'm going today, no rush to get there by noon, but I still had a hard time going to sleep last night.

Well, my opening day was a bust. we sat on the field from 12:00 until 6:30 and saw 4 birds and got a shot at one. Thats it.
It has been so hot and dry here that the millet didn't do to good. Guess we need to find us a watering hole.

I did not get a shot at one either. While I was taking a "break" in the trees behind my spot, a dove landed in the tree next to me, 15 feet away. Could not grab my gun before it flew off.

It was not a bust though. Took an electronic caller. Played "crow fight" and dropped 7 crows. I hate crows, so it was a good day.

Going to the same spot tomorrow. I have seen them on a gravel road, so we will set up there.

Well, I had plans last year, wound up not firing a shot. No plans this year. Went out below the house tonight, saw 3 ducks, 3 deer, a half dozen turkey.......and 5 dove. They were heading for a roost to the west just after sunset. The air was clear, the clouds backlit, and they were too far away. I shot anyway, though they were never in danger. They were too far for a duck gun loaded with 9's, let alone my little single 28ga. They never even swerved, but at least I fired a shot. Two days ago I fired twice , missed one, got one. I need at least 4 for the wife to cook 'em up. It was a beautiful evening though, cool and cloudy, a few holes for the sun scattered about. The first day of fall.

Well, it is a week later. Not exactly hot action, but I now have 6 birds with 8 shots, using my little H&R 28ga. Beautiful weekend, it is 45 on my porch now, but dont think it will frost, although it will be close. Cut and hauled up about 3/4 cord of wood today, will be sore tomorrow. Have a little fire going, some amaretto and hot chocolate, life is good.
