Checking in from Hurricane Irene
« on: August 30, 2011, 05:49:00 AM »
Hi guys, this is a modified message to a member who was concerned and sent me an e-mail checking on me. I also want to thank the member that took the time to call me from thw West coast, a great bunch of guys here.
Thanks for the concern, we have been without power for three days now and the estimates from the power company is for Sept 3rd or 4th!! I came in the office today for the first time since Thursday and there is power here so I can check the computer. I took Friday off to put yard stuff away and secure and tie down the rest. We lost a couple of sections of fence and a few large limbs and the yard was covered with tree debris. Except for no power we are OK. One nieghbor had a large tree come through his fence and brush his house and he lost a bunch of roof shingles but no other real "heavy duty" damage (luckily it did not rain hard here). Another lost some fenceing and large pine limbs down. My daughter and son in law were coming to visit but are putting that off. They are in the western part of the state and the eye of the hurricane came right over them, heavy flooding, 7 to 10+ inches of rain in a short time  and several dams blown away and a couple of towns and villages flooded but so far one one dead from the storm in the state.
Re the .308 barrel I have been asked about, I was going to by it but the seller said it was already sold by the time I posted that I'd take it. He sent me an IM before we lost power that the local buyer backed out and I could still buy it. It was just about 2 weeks from the time I was told it was sold to the time I got anotehr IM asking if I was still interested in it. Now I see the ejector is l reported to be funky. Since I have computer contact at the offcie I have IM'd him that I will pass on the barrel...Thanks again guys, and just to let you know my wife is having a much tougher time than I am without power, as is my neighbors wife. It must be a gender thing...Andy....<><....:)

Glad to hear your OK Andy. Most of the White Mountains got whacked with a good amount of rain, my town got almost 6 inches in under 24 hours. The Kancamagus highway and route 302 in Bartlett are still closed due to many washouts. I was over in the western Maine foothills yesterday and a lot of those towns still didn't have power. Things could have been much worse if the hurricane had stayed at full strength so I'm not complaining. I hope your power comes back soon.

Juat an update guys, my power is now back on, not as bad as we worried about, just a few days. Besides fencing. tree limbs, debris all over the place and the power loss we came through it OK. We did lose all the food in the fridge and freezer but otherwise everything is OK. Thanks to all for your concerns, communications and phone calls...Andy..others on this site have fared much worse than I and we should all keep praying for them and thier families..Thanks again...Andy....<><....:)

Good to see that your okay, and your power is back on.  Hope you didn't lose to much in the way of spoiled food.  Years ago, when I was living in NYC, I had a freezer full of venison, when the freezing went "kaput", my regular refrigerator freezer couldn't hold all the venison, so I spent the day giving venison to neighbors who never tried it before.  I was "outed" as a hunter.  ;D

Your right about the gender thing.  Guys seem to take the no power thing as a sort of "adventure".  Women seem to worry more about the conveniences in life, like no hot water to take a shower or bath.  The closest I could get my wife to go camping with me and boys when they were in scouting was "cabin" camping at Frost Valley.  Her attitude was no showers and bathroom, no camping.

That is a perfect example why a guy should have a Question List filled out and signed by the prospective woman in his life. ;D ;D

Andy, glad to have you fill in some of the details. Glad it wasn't real serious for you. And yes, I agree, the rest of us here might keep those who suffered worse in our thoughts and prayers.
