I wrote an article many years ago, when I lived in Mi., but no magazine would publish it.
And from what I information I got from the DNR back then was, that for for every buck fawn born, 4.3 doe fawns were born. That was a state average.
Most bucks taken were 1 1/2-2 1/2 years old, meaning the few bucks born each year, most would never mature.
Another factor is, that for every deer legally harvested in Michigan, one is either poached, dies of natural causes, or is hit and killed by a car.
So you can imagine the deer population if they did not attempt to reduce the numbers by liberal doe tags.
