I do believe it will be started with the 7-08 Handi, No bells or whistles just looks like a 2004 pw lam with a Bushnell 3-9. Pushing some core bonded 120gr bullets.
Good luck all- stay safe.  thejanitor
Modification- may be 44 mag or 22-250 the 7-08 barrel is going in for an ejector to extractor conversion, may be back in time..... 9-19-'11

Marlin 45/70 with 405 gr. bullet. It got the job done in the past and expect it to do so in the future.

Hopefully MS will again have the doe only early PW season this year. If so I'm giving the Pardner with the .357 Mag. barrel her first chance to draw blood. If the first season is regular gun season I've got a .308 Handi with a 30/30 accessory barrel and 6.5X55 Ruger 77 none of which have ever been hunted with. I hope to take a deer with each one during the 2011-2012 season.

I'll be packing the 7mm-08 Lite for the October 15th deer opener, either it or the 405 Win for Elk on November 5, haven't decided yet.

jeepman,

10-4 on the Texas heat.  My boy is flyin' a T38 at Sheppard AFB and I keep an eye on the weather.  I don't remember the last time the high temperature was less than 100.   FWIW, the A/C on a T38 doesn't work when the plane is on the ground. :o   That would be too hot for this old guy.

That day is alittle ways off here in PA for rifle, but its the same Handi I've been carrying for many years my 45-120 Sharps.I carried her as a 45-70 for a year than she went to a 45-90 for a year and been a 120 ever since. This is the lightest rifle I've ever carried in .458 cal. I've had #1's and Marlin Guides in 45-70 and 450.I'm trying a new bullet this year Barnes 300gr SOCOM Bullet.

Dinny,The little cartridges are 45 LC with a 255gr Keith bullet in it. I always carry a few extra rounds for my Vaquero. That SOCOM bullet does look a little odd in there, but if they would of had them in 1879 they would have tried them ,too. ;D

So many Choices, so little time.... I have wasted all summer trying to get a garden to grow I keep putting off getting scopes mounted on the new ( .35 Rem, .35 Whelen, .444 Marlin )  Handi Barrels.
Not much time left to work up a good load, so I guess I will have to use either the 7-08, or the .308, or the .280Rem,  These are ready to go...
Good thing we got choices and back up's here, kinda like a burger joint, the whole wall is Menu and ya got some pizza faced kid askin ya what ya want to order ???? just give me a minute will ya !!..."PJ"

Definitely gonna be the BC- unscoped.  I only tried the scope for development and first shot ate the guts out of it, lol.  48gr. RL7 w/ Hornady 350gr FP on top.  ;)  And I'll be packin the blackhawk for finishing, but if opportunity knocks, might take one with it first, since it hasn't tasted deer blood yet.  ;)

Tacklebury - that is the biggest Blackhawk I ever saw or the littlest BC ever ;) Nice!

I do not know if I will use the 357 Max or the 44 Mag. Decisions, decisions I think I am leaning toward the 44 Mag

Here is the 357 Max, the 44Mag looks the same but has a 2 X 7 Bushnell Banner on it instead of the 2.5 Tasco

At this point I would say my 500 S&W, I dont have it chronographed but I am sure that it is equal to a std 12 ga slug which is way more than adequate. I use my own cast loads and am using a Simmons Pro Diamond 4X shotgun scope, It shoots very well.

Depends on where I'm hunting... my bean field rifle is my 25-06 Ultra. My treestand close range guns will either be one of my 44 mags or my 357. Have a couple of mid-range stands that I could see deer or hogs on,,, I'll go with my 35 Rem on those.

The wife and I are heading out in the morning, hope to have camp set up either on Wild Horse Creek or Copper Basin here in Idaho.  Wolves opened two days ago.  We have three tags for them killing machines.
For this excursion, primary weapon will be a Ruger 77 .257 Roberts.  For the wife, a custom rifle I built on a VZ33 small ring Mauser, it also a .257 Bob.  Backups are a Belgian BLR .243, and an older 700 ADL, again in .243.  For stuff a bit farther out, I have a custom .30-06 I built on a Montana 99 action, and had the nice folks up in Kalispell barrel it up with a medium-heavy, 26 inch, 1-10 twist.  Using a 168 gr. boat tail A Max with 58 gr. IMR 4350 in the '06, Hornady 120 gr. HP's with 4350 in the Roberts, and the .243's I use 100 gr. Hornady spire point flat base bullets with 4350.  I chose these five rifles to take, as now, I am pretty much bound to the vehicle, till I heal up some, and the ol' F250 will haul a lot more in the back than I can on mine.  I can get in with the truck, set up on a ridge in the brush, and watch in the spotting scope, howl a bit, and see what comes my way.  The worst day huntin' is STILL better'n sitting around watchin' porn and eatin' cheez o's!
I told my pap and mam I was going to be a mountain man; acted like they was gut-shot. "Make your life go here, son. Here's where the people is. Them mountains is for Indians and wild men." "Mother Gue", I says "the Rocky Mountains is the marrow of the world," and by God, I was right. Keep your nose in the wind and your eye along the skyline

For ML season I'll be sporting my HUntsman and for modern gun it'll either be my 1894 in .357 or my Handi synthetic in .45-70.
However, next Saturday I'll be attempting to shoot a pig or two with my .30-30 Handi.

I'll be using either the Handi in 357 mag or 44 mag up north and down state in the shotgun zone its either the ultra slug gun in 20ga or CVA Optima Magnum which I will use for MZ season with Blackhorn 209 , harvester crush rib sabots, and hornady xtp/mag 240 grain 45cal. bullets. For bow season I use my crossbow which is Wicked Ridge Invader.
My 44 and CVA.

35 whelen handi-rifle with 200gr. hornady FTX  over 55 gr. reloader 15 = mississippi primitive weapon/black powder legal with a 9" holdover at 300 yards when zeroed at 200 yards. that covers darn  nearly everything except  beanfields  in the hills and hollers of north mississippi.

archery is out for me due to the 5 breaks in the scapula and 2 collarbone fractures  that didnt heal correctly after a really bad day at work. Im thinking about a crossbow, Ive always rejected them out of hand as cumbersome and ungainly but picked up a few at bass pro this weekend that werent too bad to handle, maybe...
