Red Dots
« on: September 02, 2011, 03:04:10 AM »
Since nothing new has happened here for a while, I thought I'd start this. Recently I have switched my Contender 32 H&R from a scope to a red dot. (Ultra Dot) and my scores have gone up a bit. The targets are smaller, but if I put the dot on it and squeeze the trigger properly the target falls. I think having more eye relief is helping, don't have to worry about getting bopped by the gun. Whatever the cause I am liking the dot sight. Anybody else here use them?

Nobade,
I have several red dot sites.  Got the Ultra Dot Four on a Ruger MKII 5" bull barrel target pistol.  Best thing I ever bought.  I can no longer see open sites due to diebetic vision loss and the Ultra Dot gave me a second chance at shooting handguns.  Used to shoot Bullseye competition, falling plates and second chance matches but had to give it up.  Hadn't shot a handgun accurately in over 10 years
but that's all changed now!

I have a red dot on my Ruger GP 100 6'' barrel. I like it for pins, but I have had some issues with the rams. I don't remember off hand what the dot is, but even on the lightest settings the dot is as big as a ram.

I have also used to shoot bullseye-ish pistol with 148gr cast WC and done some very nice shooting. It is a sight that will stay on that gun.

OK so it is old :o
as you mite guess I'm trying to kick start this silhouette forum. ;)
But Red dots I really like (have 2 ultra 30mm)them from hunting to this game. I have one  on a contender Hornet
for IHMSA PAS and  NRA BB hunter pistol  AND I had one on a Contender 22lr. for IHMSA what ever / NRA SB hunter pistol. Took it off this week
Why: I'm think with this 22lr and the 3x9 Lup. rifle scope I can use the gun for
IHMSA SB  UAS, and half scale  and still use it for HRA SB hunter pistol. The jury still out on how I like it and I do think right now it harder to shoot BUT I think in the long run across the board my scores will improve. BUT I would not Trade my red dot for 50 scopes when it comes to hunting  it's headed back to the 44 mag. were it came from

I used to have reddots on several of my handguns. Always liked the smaller 2 moa dots with a 4 moa being the largest I would use. Some of the newer ones with crosshairs in them are nice. Liked the fact too that I shot with both eyes open when I used the reddots. Focus on the target and then raise the pistol and there's a dot where I want to shoot.
