More out of control cops?

So, are cops using the tasers much more than they would otherwise use firearms? I thought they were supposed to be a non-lethal substitute for firearms. If they're being used more circumstances than firearms would be used for, then they've taken on a life of their own.

Appears we'll have to wait to hear the other side of the story.
But if the families side is accurate then big trouble for a few cops.

It seems to me that tasers are being used more to provide "street justice/punishment" than as a non-lethal substitute for firearms. The guy may have displayed an attitude toward the cop, but if the only reason he was stopped was for honking at the cop car and no less at gunpoint, it would be hard not to have an attitude.

  The article is completely from the single perspective of the family; we don't have the other side.
   If the article as written is indeed accurate, it could be big trouble for some cops.  We'll have to wait and see.

I feel it is used entirely to much for the wrong reasons. It has taken the place of pepper spray because it is more effective. As a policeman I know told me " if anyone gives me a hard time- I just taz their a$$ and that ends it immediately". I'm starting to change my opinion of the police, and it's not in a positive way.

I've heard the same thing from police officers, and I feel it is heavy handed brutality on their part.  If someone like Spirit Hawk, me, or any of the people here with bad tickers, were Tazed, there is a strong possability it would be over for us.  Our weak hearts would not handle it

I have a defibrillator in my chest and a tazor would set it off with a shock that would at the least, knock me out, but the combination would probably kill me.

Give a cop an inch they will take a mile... They should loose all their neat devices  go back to just handguns nightsticks shotguns and body armor with very limited and small swat teams that must get the ok from a judge before deployment. and that the police chief is responcable for any and all illegal actions and abuses of people taht are commited on duty in his/her department.
Everytime you turn around they want some new gadget that will will make their job safer. BS they knew the job was dangerious when they signed on
 
Don't get me wrong I respect the law . it's alot(not all) of those enforcing it that bother me  But have you ever noticed the more liberial the  state town city  village county the mor jackbooted the cops are

As a former LEO, I think that alot of the trainingand tactics have gotten way out of line.OK I understand the criminal element has gotten more sophisticated and LE needs to keep up. There has to be a middle ground between the radical attitude of law enforcement and the Barney Fife era. Hell even here in Arizona, they are making game and fish officers do traffic stops now.

If I understand the story correctly a cop cut someone off on the road, then got miffed because the guy he had just cut off tooted at him.  So he pulls the guy over, calls some of his cop buds and they decide to teach this guy a lesson for having the nerve to question the officers driving skills.

Most gas stations have video surveillance cameras these days.  If the story is accurate I hope they have it on tape and these jerks do time for manslaughter.  Their is just no excuse for such behavior.

Seems far too many cops these days have the attitude that they are somehow superior to the general public and the old credo of "to serve and protect" has long gone out the window.   

I used to look up to and respect law officers,  more and more of these types of stories in the news is making it more difficult to do so all the time. 

I know not all cops are bad, in fact several of my friends are LEOs and I believe most would be appalled by this story.   On the few occasions that I have been stopped the officers were courteous and respectful for the most part.  Keeping my cool and composure probably saved me in at least one situation where an officer started out with a bad attitude. 

Unfortunately we don't get to choose the cop who pulls us over so keep your cool and comply with the officer to the best of your ability and things usually tern out okay.  You may still get a ticket but at least you may avoid a tazing or beating.
