Remount Winchester signal cannon?

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the barrel of a Winchester signal cannon from its carriage so it could be mounted on something else? Without destroying the carriage, of course.

Are you bidding on that one listed now?  The carriage unbolts to free the barrel.

Sure, the barrels can be removed without harming the carriages.  I've seen more than a few fine examples of what you're thinking of doing, some with fancy exotic wood naval carriages.

Actually I was thinking of mounting it on my boat.

Same difference, you can do it; I've also seen WRAC salute gun barrels mounted on handmade field carriages. That swivel gun looks sharp; is that a Herreshoff?

Yes, it is a Herreshoff. The Herreshoff is a beautiful cannon but I think I can modify a Winchester cannon and end up with a rail mounted 10 gauge cannon for about half of what the Herreshoff costs. Even after having somebody make me a rail mount yoke

you won't have any problem setting the winchester into a rail mount.  i have built several naval carriages for the winchester barrel.  the mount that you are looking at is for the herreshoff which has .75" trunions. i believe the winchester has .625" trunions.  the holder is a perko product and the mount is cast bronze.  i made the patterns for it.  check with rbg cannons to see what they are getting for it.  i don't know the dimension of the barrel at the trunions at this time.  we are waiting for the champlain canal to open so that we can get our boat home.
