RCBS or Lyman???
« on: January 05, 2004, 09:27:38 PM »
:D
Hello everyone, I'm new here and I have a question.  I have a little bit of reloading experience on my uncle's reloading equipment, but not enough to know what good brands are.  I am about to spend money on a reloading kit and I want some of your opinions about which one would be the best and why.  I have narrowed my search down to either the RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme reloading kit and the Lyman Orange Crusher kit. The Lyman setup is about $100 bucks less than the RCBS.  Is it just as good or would I be happier in the long run spending more money?  I am open to suggestions on other brands, but I would like you to stay in the $250 dollar range because that is the approximate price of the RCBS setup.
Thanks :D

You can get the RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Master Reloading Kit
from cabelas right now for $219!

Go to http://www.cabelas.com/ then go to Bargain Cave  >  Hunting  >  Reloading Accessories

RCBS has a lifetime no-questions-asked replacement policy.

The short answer is that you will be happy with either.  Both have adequate support, although RCBS takes the lead here.  Both are more than adequate for anything the average reloader will do.  Both accept standard dies and shell holders.  The RCBS can be made into a progressive with an expensive addition, Lyman has no equivelant add-on.

To be perfectly honest, with the limited differences, I'd consider which color matched my reloading room if that will help keep peace in the house!

.........I started with Lyman equipment 30yrs ago and I won't knock the Lyman equipment...I still have a set of dies that are some of the smoothest and straightest I own.....BUT.....RCBS sets the standard for other companies to meet.....imo....I now have progressive presses where Dillon rules the pack and a couple of RCBS presses along with RCBS case trimmers,Uniflow powder measures, mechanical and electronic scales by RCBS and 14die sets,RCBS casemaster and other small reloading tools.......If you have any problem with the equipment RCBS will go the extra mile to help you and/or replace-repair any equipment that is a problem.....usually even if it is YOUR fault and they are quick and polite with the help........some speciality items are better in other companies products but the price is also higher...buy RCBS and then if a special need shows up then check for a "best" among the suppliers but RCBS covers most all needs.........we are so lucky in the shooting/reloading field that we have so many quality suppliers and true supporters of their customers and the sport....imo....good luck and good shooting-loading....and WELCOME BACK!!!!!

I have the Rockchucker and it has been a great press although I now use a Dillon. My only suggestion is to check out MidSouth Shooting Supplies and Natchez Shooting Supplies for a good price. I just ordered the Lyman Digital Powder System from MidSouth and it was $72 cheaper than Cabelas.
