S&W Bodyguard

My son just bought a very nice revolver for conceal carry and as backup to his XD .45.  It's the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard .38 Spc +P with laser sight. It has a pretty nice feel to it, light, easy to conceal, and loaded with +P Hollow Points it should be pretty effective. I love where the release for the cylinder is. It's on top where a hammer spur normaly would be and very easy, and fast, to work with your thumb. Anybody own one?

Don't own one but did have a chance to shoot one. I like the gun and think it would be a good choice for anyone not ingrained with the old S&W revolver manual of arms.  Well, I'll just say I'm so used to having the cylinder release just forward of my strong hand thumb, I would likely have a really slow emergency reload with the position of the mag release on the BG.

While I have more experience than my son with revolvers we both find the cylinder release natural and easy to use. I think it was a pretty nifty idea and fast. However, as my son said, if after 5 shots the threat still exists it might just be prudent to run! lol

By the time I get to a backup gun, things have gone down hill pretty bad, he's likely right about that. When I carried a backup to my duty weapon, I rarely carried a reload for it anyway. Guess that makes a good case for carrying a backup that uses the same ammo and magazines as the primary.

My son has both a CCW Permit and an Executive Protection Permit, he's a Certified Executive Bodyguard. He mainly wanted the S&W for casual carry when he's not on job but as a backup weapon too. His primary weapon is an XD .45 and he wouldn't trade it for any gun made. :)

No +p, just some 135gr factory stuff and some 158gr reloads. The recoil of the BG felt softer than my S&W mdl 36 with the same loads. I admit to liking revolvers with short barrels, I do have one 6", but generally stay with 4" or less. I liked the BG enough that if I were in the market for another snubbie, I'd consider one.

Is the BG one of the new polymer framed revolvers like the Ruger LCR?
