7600 Carbine sling??
« on: September 04, 2011, 05:39:11 PM »
Picked up my new 7600 Carbine the other day.  I want to be able to put a sling on it if necessary.  However I don't care for barrel band sling set ups.  I noticed the Remington 7600P had permanently mounted sling swivels on the end of the fore-arm. http://www.remingtonle.com/rifles/7600.htm

I found this kit.  It says it fits 760 and 7600 (Pre-1968).  The 7600's weren't made until 1981 IIRC.  Does anyone know if it'll fit on a brand new 7600 Carbine?   http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=481421   Or does anyone know the correct one Remington installed on the 7600P?

Thanks, NYH1!

Not you have my curiosity!  I have a newer 7600 and want a sling on it but never have did it because I do not like the barrel band either.

What did you use?

the barrel band sling mount is better as the forend mount can put undo pressure  on the forend hanger and in fact can bend or warp the hanger, plus the sling does not move when pumping the rifle. eastbank.

I've heard/read both sides of this issue.  Here is my take.  I don't like barrel bands first and for most.  My carbine will be in one of my hands 95% of the time.  I try to carry my guns in my hands even when walking into and out of the woods.  All my rifles and shotguns are set up for sling use.  I keep a sling either in my pack or on my gun for two reasons. 1- It's easier to drag a deer with your rifle/carbine in a sling allowing you to use both hands.  2-  I have a back injury and had surgery this past spring, so every once in a while I have to throw the rifle/carbine over my shoulder in a sling.

My 7600 carbine will be slung very little.  Looking at the parts schematic and feeling the gun in my hands, the parts seem strong enough for what little use of a sling I'll be using on it.

So that part number appears to be the set for the pre 68 models.  You have verified that it also fits the newer models?

A guy on another site has 3 newer 7600's and he installed that part number Uncle Mikes on all three of his rifles.  I entered that part number on Midwayusa and read the reviews.  Two guys say they put them on their 7600's without issue.

I'm on the fence as to which I'm going to use.  I already have everything I need to put a barrel band on it now.  The barrel bands that I have don't go all the way around the barrel, the top is open.  I don't know what I'm going to do yet.

If you go with the barrel band and move it ahead far enough your sling won't wear the finish off the tip of your forend ! The only time my sling is on my rifle is when I'm dragging a deer . Then it's not catching on brush , or making noise , and I don't get lazy and sling it when it should be in my hands  . If you remove your sling while you're hunting , it really doesn't matter which way you go .

I had all the parts to put a barrel band setup on it so I put it on yesterday. It's not the barrel band that go's all the way around the barrel. It go's about 2/3 around the barrel leaving the top open.  It looks ok.  I'm going to try this setup for a while and see how I like it.
