Problems with Handi 30-30
« on: September 04, 2011, 08:17:47 PM »
I've had my Handi 30-30 for some time now and finally got it out to the range. I had only factory ammo...Fed 150, Rem 150 and Win 170. All three makes showed problems with the fired brass. Fed 150 and Rem 150 the primers backed out of the primer pocket with the fed 150 being worse and finally the Win 170 had the most problems in that it slightly flattened the primers and more significantly the case split at the shoulder on the two rounds I fired. Figured it was time to put the gun away.

btw...I bought the gun brand new about 8 months ago.

Figure it must be a chamber problem/headspace issue but????

Anybody have this problem with their handi? And how to fix it?

Thanks

I would contact customer service and send it in to be checked out. If it is only 8 mo old they may even pay the shipping. Depending on your location, since Remington took over they sometimes have you send it to your region approved gun smith, they will tell you who that is if they don't have you send it to them. But I have heard many stories that end up with a happy ending. Especially if you are the only owner and just got it a while back.
Good luck, the phone numbers you need are in the FAQ, hope they have you fixed up before you need it.  Don't waste any time, call ASAP, I would send the split cases along with it.

Sounds like too much headspace to me. It is appalling to me that they let a gun in that condition out the door.

Maybe the barrel dept. doesnt have (!), or has neglected to train the staff, to use go/no-go gauges............
BTW, H&R isnt the only company that 'lets' stuff like this get out the door.
