6.5 JDJ and Varget
« on: September 05, 2011, 12:07:04 PM »
Hey fellas,

I am new to this cartridge & recently got a sweet deal on a 14" SSK 6.5 JDJ.

Fixing to start some load development with 120-140 Amax's & wondering if any of you guys are running these with Varget?

Thanks in advance for any input!

I don't have the 6.5 but I have a  6mm on the same case 225 Win. and it loves Varget so it should work with yours.

e-mail or call JD at SSK Industries for load data...

Hodgdon doesn't list Varget for the 6.5 JDJ on their site..

Varget will work fine in 222/223 size cases up spinafish.   Varget might be a possibility, but it wouldn't be my choice in the 6.5JDJ.    I've had 2 SSK barrels chambered for the 6.5JDJ, both 14" stainless.   My powder choices were 760,  RE15, N-160, 4350, 414, 2520 and 2015 (in approx that order).
FWIW

Thanks for the input fellas. Looks like I need to round up some more powder for the 6.5. Have about 10# of Varget on hand, along with RL19 & 22. Thought I'd ask on the Varget, its performed well in everything I've run it thru. Was worth a shot.

Thanks again!

If RL15 works so will Varget because it burns about the same rate. Even uses about the same data for most calibers. I would give it a try.

Main reason I didn't like Varget in the cartridges I tried it in was it shot lower velocities at higher pressures than my loads did with the other powders I used for them.
