Hey Guys,
I'm loading some Hornady 158 gr XTP's for my Handi Rifle. How fast would you load them for deer? Currently, I'm playing with 2400 which should give me around 1700 fps.

Check with Hornady and make sure you aren't pushing them faster than they recommend. If it were a JSP rather than JHP then sure 1700 shouldn't be a problem and might not anyway. Are you sure that velocity is rifle length velocity not handgun velocity? I've not looked in a manual to be sure but you should. Personally I'd go with a JSP rather than JHP from the rifle barrel.

I use the 158 XTP's and 13.8 gr of 2400 with excellent results. Last year my 9 year old grandson killed a doe and a spike , both at around 70 yards with that load and a standard 357 handi.
