Ruger Single Six in 32 H&R
« on: September 07, 2011, 08:20:52 PM »
Got a hankering to find a Single Six in 32 H&R these days.  Passed on one a while back that I regret now, thinking it'd be a mighty fine trail gun.  Looking at them online I see there are a number of configurations, anyone have a favorite barrel length for the caliber?  And what loads are you shooting in yours?

I have three of them with adjustable sights. 5-1/2", 6-1/2" and a 9-1/2".  Can't choose a favorite.

Loads?  Same load I use in all my sixguns.   Heavy for caliber hard cast bullet over a "full" charge of W-296.  I use small rifle primers in the .32 mag., as well.

Mines the 4 5/8 barrel. Blued, fixed sights, color/case hardened frame, imitation ivory grips with Ruger emblems. I have two loads, one a 90gr cast boolit, the other an 85gr XTP. Both shoot well, although Id like to try 100gr XTPs. In my opinion, its a lot more gun than a rimfire, in the same package, if that makes any sense. Try one, I bet youll like it.

Got a pair of the fixed sight ones with birdshead grip frames and a pair of 5 1/2" adjustable sight ones, one of which is eventually getting sent off for it's brass birdshead to be fitted.   Just standard Federal stuff is fine in them.  Just fun plinkers really.    I'd probeblt prefer the 6 1/2" but just 'cause I prefer the look.

4 3/4 inch baby vaquero. Trailboss for plinking loads and bludot for serious stuff. RCBS 100 gr swc cast from wheelweights. Accurate, easy to carry, and when that 100 gr pill is hoping out the muzzle at about 1100 fps plenty enough for some serious business.

Currently have one of the Blued / case with birdshead grips.  love this gun.  Had the 5.5 inch adjustable and traded it... dumb decision on my part..... really miss that gun
My FFL holder requires any firearms to be shipped to them via another FFL holder.  So, If I make an offer on a firearm please let me know if this is capable of being done from the start.  Please do NOT mark an item "SPF" to me until we "both" are happy with and in agreement on shipping, funds and the transaction in general.   Thanks

Thanks for the insights gentlemen.  I found a Single Six and have dies, brass and a mold (RCBS 32-098 SWC) inbound.  I have a Lyman 311008 that drops alittle bigger than .313" from the mold weighing in 115+ grains that I'm hoping might work too.  Looks like I'll be able to reload this cartridge pretty inexpensively, about the same as what Mini Mag 22lr cost here and a bunch less than 22Mags cost.  My niche for the 32 will probably be everything I used my 22 Single Six for up to lower levels of 38 spl.

Thanks again for the help.

I tell ya what, Id like to have mine fitted with a cylinder chambered for the 327 Federal, and replace the barrel with a 5 inch octagon and a little better set of sights. I think that would make a very well rounded carry gun. Then to have a Handi fit with a 22 inch light weight 327 barrel to match, I think would make a heck of a pair. Any body know of someone with either of those skills?
