44 Caliber Cheroot Cane
« on: September 08, 2011, 08:37:22 AM »
I just finished building this screw top cheroot cane modeled after a 6 pounder.  Rammer storage is in the shaft.  It's a larger version with an 1-1/4" dowel. These will sell for 95 dollars and also be available in 50 caliber.   Dom

Nice!
How does the rammer work?  Do you just tap it out of a deep hole after you unscrew the barrel?

Put a short spring under the rammer for quick access....

A short stiff spring with a pointed stud on top of the ram rod for an emergency "second shot" ;D just kidding....... ??? i'm soooooooooooooo happy!!!!!!!!! seriously, great idea about the spring, it would also keep the rammer from rattling around when stowed. I think I will try it!

Since the barrel is already threaded for the cane maybe you could make a base/carriage it could thread into.

That's a nice piece of work!
It looks sturdier than other designs I've seen, and looks like it could easily withstand actual use (as a walking cane)

I know we don't really get into discussions about legal issues here, but if it would be legal to carry, it would be extremely cool for a firearm enthusiast who actually has a need for a cane in everyday life.
He reached out and stroked shiny barrel. "Manuel, once there was a man who held a political make-work job like so many here in this Directorate, shining brass cannon around a courthouse."

   "Why would courthouse have cannon?"

"Never mind. He did this for years. It fed him and let him save a bit, but he was not getting ahead in the world. So one day he quit his job, drew out his savings, bought a brass cannon--and went into business for himself."

Not in a tapered barrel.  Check out my website home page and it would be the same as the Cheroot cane there.  www.blackpowder-cannons.com

Yes, same shape barrel as the website in 44 caliber with a screw attached socket and oak shaft and rammer would sell for $90 plus shipping.
