hornady 140 ftx bullets in max

Anybody loading these in your handi , do you trim the brass down , or leave it full length

Not sure I understand the question... why would you need to trim the brass down? Are you worried about the OAL of the cartridge? I have some 200gr. hardcast from Reed's and they're long but still chamber fine.

Trimming brass for FTX bullets is only required for leverguns and revolvers as stated in the load note, longer COLs are not normally a problem in a single shot.

I have personally seen them shoot in less than 1/2" 100yd groups when carefully loaded and shot in a 1:20" twist barrel.

I didn't find an accurate loading ...yet.
 
I would advise AGAINST using them on big game...

Like CW says... I wouldn't use them for big game. 140gr. in a 35 caliber seems kinda light.

Here's the rest of what I know about the 140gr FTX shot from a Maxi.


















I have to agree with the others, considering the speed at which this bullet can be pushed, it's unlikely it will penetrate much bigger animals than a coyote or fox. The pics show bullets that were shot into ballistic gelatin, no bones, hide, fur or fins...with a MV of around 2700fps.






If you decide to use them for a small game hunt, please post pics so we can see firsthand the effects it has.
