Sheeps heads

Anyone finding them yet? A buddy of mine has found 125# so far. I'm going out looking in the morning.

I have heard of them being called Hen of the Woods. I believe the scientific name is Grifola frondosa.

Went out Saturday morning, and found about 20 different sheeps heads. I picked 2 bigger ones, about 20# total. I let the others go to get a little bigger. I'll try to get out later this week, or this weekend.

Are you talking about puffballs?? POWDERMAN.

Nope Puffballs are totally different. These are found by large, dead, or dieing oak trees. They usually grow right were the trunk and the ground meet.

And boy are they delicious! Just slice them about a 1/4" thick and fry them in butter, or olive oil with a little salt & pepper. There great with steaks, or burgers, and they make a perfect candidate for a mushroom soup.
