CVA muzzleloaders any better now?

Bought a CVA accura about three years ago after selling my encore. The blow back was terible and I couldn't get it to shoot better than 6" at a 100 yards. The encore would do 2" all day long. I traded it on a centerfire. Am thinking of buying another muzzleloader. Has the CVA gotten better with the new breach plug on blow back. The accura had the Bugara barrel, which was supposed to be very good. I must have gotten a bad one. Any thoughts. Don

I bought an accura about the same time, and had the same problem.  I called CVA and they told me to send it back, which I did.  They sent me a new rifle and boy does it shoot great.  They gaurantee the accuracy on the accura's.

I bought a new Optima last year and the fingers only breech plug is everything they say.  It is a tack driver and with a round count nearing 100, has yet to throw a flier.  Clean up is the easiest I have had in 30+ years of BP shooting.  Earlier this week, I used teflon tape on the plug threads and tho the jury is still out, I liked the clean up even better (no grease to clean out of the threads) and zero blow back.

primer blow by is very easy to fix on CVA's.

6" grouops @ 100 is horrible but you didnt mention anything about load development in the rifle.

Spent about 150.00 on powder and different bullets. I am going to pick up a Optima thumbhole with Kones scope tomorrow. I hope I'll have good luck. I really liked the Accura but just couldn't get it to shoot. I was unaware of the fix for the blowback at the time. Thanks , Don

Is it the new optima with the Finger removable breech plug? I have 2 and they are both superb shooters. I actually just finished tuning my thumb hole optima this evening with 110gr Blackhorn209, CCI 209 Mag primers and the new 250gr Powerbelt Aerolite. 3 shots touching @ 100 yards with a 10 minute cool down between shots.

Yes, Its the new one. I am also looking at one with the 3-10 Konus instead of the 3-9 Konus. Not sure which one to get. Don

check out the Konus Pro 3-10x44, i run that scope on my Optima and its absolutely beautiful!
