ATI STOCK
« on: September 10, 2011, 07:36:00 PM »
Howdy yall
Well I should have my handi back on tues. from h&r with the 44 mag barrel fitted and ready to roll! So I just have a couple of questions. I am going to let my wife's little brother shoot it for his first deer season this year. He is ten yrs old and has some shooting experience. I want to put a smaller stock on it for him but I would also like to be able to shoot it comfortably so my question is has anyone tried the 6 position stock from advanced tech. and is it worth a hoot. I am planning on shorting the barrel to 16 1/2 in and putting on Williams peep and front sight. If anyone has some info on a good factory load for deer and maybe hogs that won't be to much for him to handle.
Many thanks TJ

I have not had one of the ATI stocks. But from other accounts here on the site, there has been an issue with them collapsing. I think most problems occured under the heavy hitting caliber rifles and shotguns so you may be ok on the .44.

Good for you to share with the youngen. My little ones and the neighborhood youngens have all grown. So now days I have to wrestle with my boy(18) on what I am carrying ;)

I don't have one either, but I think the solution was to cut a piece of dowel rod the length of pull you want for him and put it inside the stock.  That way it cannot collapse further.  ;)

Picked up some 225 gr ftx hornady's to try today. Come on tuesday! Thanks for the heads up on the stock. I think I'll just buy a new youth stock from midway, haven't had any luck finding one on here. Will the synthetic being lighter add recoil to that rifle

It will increase felt recoil, but most guys here add a little weight in the stock to compensate. Plus with the .44 the recoil is almost not there anyways. I get the synthetic and not worry about the recoil.  ;)

+1 on the probably ok for the 44 mag. My daughter likes shooting our 44 mag handi synthetic-with hog loads, so he should be ok without added wt to the butt stock.
Good for you to offer the guy a chance to hunt.   thejanitor

I would not use one on anything with more recoil than a 22Hornet!!! Heck I likely would not even even use one after seeing the pics of the poor bugger who tried to scoop his eyeball outta his head shooting one...
PLEASE DON'T DO THIS!!! Its simply NOT WORTH the risk!!

I bought an ATI and put it on my .44 mag Handi.......for about a minute.  It felt like a kids junk toy gun.  Got rid of it.
