3-9 Choice
« on: September 11, 2011, 03:58:52 PM »
I've seen some real tempting deals on 3-9 scopes recently. The Bushnell 4200 3-9 and Nikon Monarch 3-9  can be found for around $200.00.  The Leupold VX-2 3-9 seems to be at least $100.00 more. Since this is a hypothetical argument, would you spend the extra $100.00 and get the Leupold, or pick one of the other two choices and why?

IMO if you can get the Monarch for $200 it's the best for the money.
RIP Mike. Died on July 14th, around 2am, with his family at his side, he went peacefully to be with god.

i ended up picking up a burris 3x9 for a 139 bucks from cameraland. Im not a big burris fan but it was hard to pass up at that price. I had my vortex razor binocs stolen last week out my truck and found a set of 10x42 minoxs regularly 500 bucks  closed out for 200 bucks which again was to cheap to pass on.

I would put the money into the Leupold every time.

If you are paying $300 for a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40mm scope you are paying $0.01 above $299.99 full retail price.

Leupold VX-II's can be bought for a lot less than $300 off on-line sales.

In my opinion, no other optics company can meet or beat Leupold's quality or customer service.

Here is a quick search off goggle, see links below.

$239.99

I would buy a VX-II on eBay for considerably less than the $100.00 difference.

The Leupold by far and I like the other 2.

I like the Nikon Monarc scopes glass more than the Leupold glass. The only Monarc 3x9s I see listed now days have that funky ballistic type reticle with the circles. To me the Monarch has a better view than even the VX-III scopes.

Youper77, with those sale prices at Cabelas I'll bet there's a change coming on the VX-II line.

Dave in WV,

I bet you are right. Leupold is probably changing their line from VX-II to VX-2, so that means the VX-II's will be sold for a lot less.

I bought a new Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x40mm scope for $200 new, so the deals are out there just be patient and look around.

I recently spent the extra hundy and purchased the Leupold. A few reasons, product experience, company backing of the product, U.S. owned co., and it was available in a glossy finish.

Your other choices are sound though.

I totally agree with you.

Leupold's are the only optics I ever buy anymore and I don't and won't consider any of the others optics regardless of price.

All of my scopes arent leupolds but probably 70 percent of them are. Out of the rest probably 20 percent are nikon monarchs or team primos (same thing) and the rest are a mixed lot. Any more i stick with leupold and nikon and wont by a luepold cheaper then a vx2 because i hate friction ajustments and wont by a nikon other then a monarch because to my eyes buckmasters and prostaffs dont work well in low light. I really hestitated buying this burris 3x9. i bought it because at the closeout price i got it for it was hard to pass but ive had crap luck with burris scopes in the past. I thought hard on another 4200 bushnell for 200 bucks but after the way i was treated by there customer service dept when the last one went bad i just couldnt bring myself to give them any more money.
