Try a reduced hand load . It will work out fine for you. 26-t

I would either get a new barrel or an affordable reloading set like a lee. If you shoot alot it will pay for itself in no time and be more satisfying and probably more accurate. Besides reloading is almost as much fun as shooting. I would stay away from those inserts.

I was a fool and didn't start reloading until a year and a half ago.  Happily, I had saved all my brass thinking to get it reloaded some day.  I bought the Lee Anniversary Kit, and added to it.  It has paid for itself, all the dies etc. and more in a year and a half.  Now I chuckle when when I look at ammo prices in Wal-Mart and other stores.  There's very few bargains anymore.  My only real expense now is powder, primers and bullets.  Don't wait, do it now.  It's more shooting cash in your pocket down the line.

I too would stay away from the insert.

Hornet ammo is expensive, at least for me. You can pay for the reload stuff pretty quick for the price of it and make any load light to full from then on.
If I was going to get another 22 cal. CF it would be a .223, relatively cheap factory ammo and I could/would reload for it as I suggest above.

Its safe with the appropriate "bulk" powders: Trail Boss, IMR SR-4759...
google "chuck hawks reduced recoil" to read more.

That is a lot of down loading 22-250 to 22 Hornet. I have never liked a large case with almost no powder, makes for a very inconsistent ignition.  I would just buy the barrel. As for reloading the only box of ammo I ever bought for center fire was 3030 and it cost         $ 1.98, so it has been a while.

the bulk powders can fill the case; they are truly "not much bang for the buck".

Use Trail Boss and download your 22-250.  Good high density load, with good ignition.  Google Hodgden Powders for tables of how much powder to use, and start having fun.  It shows a load for a 55gr bullet using Trail Boss, in the 22-250.

Guys,

I too would be interested in hearing from folks that have used/tried inserts, not just said to stay away from them.  Thanks.

I don't have a factory made insert, but Larry made me a ~13" 22 Hornet adapter for a 12ga, it shoots excellent at 50yds in my 12ga USH. Do a search for chamber adapter, lots of discussions.
