Schmidt and Bender Scope?
« on: January 06, 2004, 04:35:53 PM »
Has anyone looked through a Schmidt and Bender 1.5-6 42mm rifle scope with an illuminated #9 reticle? How does the field of view, brightness, and clarity compare to Leupold VarX111 1.5-5 scope? Opinion of illuminated reticle also? Thanks! I have a new Leupold described above and thinking about selling for a Schmidt and Bender to mount on a 45-70 lever for bear.

The S&B is sharper and clearer than the Leupold Vari-X III, but is it worth triple the money?  I don't think so.  I haven't used the illuminated reticles on the S&B scopes yet, but I love Leupold's Illuminated scopes.

:D  :D  :D I have a S&B 1.5-6 with that retical,,, and this is only my 2 cents worth,    This scope is the brightest, and the most durable of any scope that is produced,,,,,bar none,    There is no contest here,  Most scopes are pretty much equal in the daylight hours, but in the last couple of moments of daylight, and in the dark,   the S&B is unbelievable,   Is it worth the price,   well thats only up to you, i think it is.....

You are paying for 1st plane reticles, no shift on point of impact with power changes, no degradation in accuracy with constant adjustment of the power ring, fast focus adjustment, better reticles, etc... along with clearer optics.  They are not triple the price, more like double.  And, IMHO, they are well worth it.
