Spreading The Word
« on: September 13, 2011, 09:08:06 AM »
Sunday I was in a Wholesale Outfitters store, I was looking at the row of Handi's. I asked the counter guy what caliber's he had in stock ? He read them them off and there was nothing there that I didn't already have.
He offered that recently a person had bought a Handi and that he came back complained about it opening on fireing..... So I asked to see one of his rifles and opened the action and showed him the "locking Shelf" (??) and explained that this had to be free of any oil and to make sure that when closing the action that you snap it closed....
He acted totally surprised that I sounded like I knew more about the Handi Rifle than he did......
I have always wanted to stand behind the gun counter at a large gun store and BS with the blow hards about their guided hunts to deep dark Africa and BC, and Alaska and Texas.... (NOT)  "PJ"

I went into my local Dicks store and they had two rifles left. If you didnt knoe they have decided to not stock Handi rifles any more. One of them would not lock up at all unless you slammed it as hard as you could. The other had a barrel that would wobble even when closed. Tried telling the guy at the counter about the problem but what do I know.

That sounds like an opportunity for a heavy discount on those if someone wanted em, H&R will always fix em on their dime.  ;)

Tim, that doesn't reassure prospective buyers when they see such shoddy quality control.

While I'm at it. On the synthetic forearms and the wood ones, I presume their is a drill jig for one and the mold for the other that would locate the screw hole and the distance from it to the back were it meets the receiver. I've had two now were the fit is so poor that the barrel is not centered in the channel and the forearm is pushing so tight against the back that you have to push the barrel firmly down to open the action.

Now presuming that the length is uniform and the hole is in the proper location the only thing left is the location of the Lug that is soldered underneath the barrel. I would think even on an inexpensive item as the Handi's it should be uniform.
What is the point of Life if you can't have fun.

They didnt want to sell them at a discount and said they were going to send them back. And the two calibers they had were ones I own already. I was thinking about it.

Yup, they're still there cuz no one wanted em, unfortunately neither issue is a new one, but both are repairable.
